I'd plan on running the hang on steps about 5 feet or so ABOVE the hang on. Makes it alot safer and easier to get into the hang on. Also, if you run a safety rope from a thick branch above the hang on, you can use a prussic loop to attach your harness to as you go up the ladder.
Does that make sense?

I am 53 years old and overweight. However, i am in decent shape....
I hang my stands alone, most times mulitple times a year...
Not to hard to do, but I've been doing it for a LONG time....
Love those stands......
easy to move, IMO
easy to hide ABOVE limbs....
many days each season I sit all day.......in a hang on stand.
gotta love it......or maybe just be crazy..lol

Only kind of stand i use. Have several over 30 foot. They are not easy to hand by can be done by one person. I find a tall staright tree i can climb with my climber and climb up with my climber to the desired height. Pull the hand on up and strap it on just above my climbers level. Then i go down in my climber screwing in the steps. Works great.

That's a good idea, but i prefer to get above the limbs for cover,,,,,,,,,that's why I never use a climber to hunt from....I just feel naked up there without limbs below me...

Standard safety practic is to never use branches as steps...they could be rotted inside and you'll never know until they break.
Use a safety rope with sliding prusic knot so you are attached to safety rope at all times between feet leaving ground and back again.

be sure to take the stand down each year or at least loosen the straps. check the straps closely every season. they can rot and break.....
