Are they federally protected or just state protected, or are they federally protected through state law? Thanks.

They are only protected by state law. The federal laws only apply to migratory species.

I don't know the answer to that question, but I do know why they are protected. why are they?
they are protected by state law because somebody with money thought they were pretty.

Yep, ol fella was watching one and didnt want it killed, got the law slipped through with favors I do believe. Heres the big surprise,....... he was a Politician!!! lol I know thats hard to believe!! lmao

A good example of why it would be a bad idea to let the State Legislature run the TWRA instead of the TWRC.
