I got me 2 hang on stands after deer season closed, never have used a hang on stand before or hung one for that matter so I have a question or 2..Are they able to be hung with just 1 person? If so, how hard is it? They came with 20ft tree sticks..I was thinking of ordering 1 more set of sticks (20ft) and making my 2 other stick sets taller like 25 to 30ft..The 1 tree I plan to hang 1 in,definatly needs to be about 25ft because of lack of background cover...Is anything over 20ft too high for a hang on stand?

Hang-ons can be done with one person, but its much easier with two, the way we do it anyhow. I have some 30-35 foot with no problems out of them!

Safety harness with a climbing belt will help. Only used my hang-on for one year before getting a climber. Found it much easier to climb higher than I was going to hang the stand, put in a screw-in step and 2-3' above where I wanted the seat and then us the step as a pulley to pull up the stand. Once I got it where I wanted it, tie off the rope (2nd screw in step for tie off) and then secure the stand.

I always hang mine myself...Practice doing it closer to the ground till you get the hang of it...it is a little awkward cause at some point you don't have either hand holding onto the tree...It is probably alot easier with the sticks I don't know. I use the strap on steps and I have to grip the tree with my knees while wrapping the chain ... I just use 8 steps tho, that doesn't get me to high..I don't need no higher!..

another consideration is learning the position to start your sticks or steps in relation to the way you want your stand faceing...its not a big deal but it does matter...

Love them for bow hunting! they are pretty easy to set up once you get the hang of it! I have found that if you climb up your sticks and put a tree peg in right above where you are going to hang the stand you can tie a rope to the stand and run it over the peg and hoist it up with the rope. when you get the stand where you want it you can tie the rope to a footpeg so the stand will be hanging there and you will not have to try and hold it with one hand while trying to strap it on!

The 1 stand is gonna be 100% bow and the other is gonna be both, but mostly bow..I can use my climber on the one tree I want to put one in,but I like the luxury of having the stand already there,as to all I have to do is walk in and climb up..LOL.>Call me lazy I kno..

I hang most of mine in trees that I can just shimmy up using the branches as steps. A harness with a climbing belt would be the safest way. I got one about 35ft up in a big ole cedar with the top blown out of it. Its like sittin a eagles nest. Nice big branches to climb all the way up.

Save yourself some time and energy. Hunter Specialties has a pulley system to help you put the stands up. I highly recommend you purchase one.

yup...only way to fly. hands free and able to work. It feels like your giving the business to about 2 tons of hardwood (pun intended) but you can get the stand where you want it and feel safe.
Outside of that if its a set sticks to and leave ordeal I use the treestep pully idea. If I have a partner I have them hold it. If not I pull it up tie it off and go back up.
Most of my public land hunting is done with lone wolf style climbing sticks and I just have the 11 lb stand tied to a tow rope and pull it up when I get the sticks in place.
On my personal land I love putting sticks up and hang ons to leave all year!

I'd plan on running the hang on steps about 5 feet or so ABOVE the hang on. Makes it alot safer and easier to get into the hang on. Also, if you run a safety rope from a thick branch above the hang on, you can use a prussic loop to attach your harness to as you go up the ladder.
Does that make sense?

I am 53 years old and overweight. However, i am in decent shape....
I hang my stands alone, most times mulitple times a year...
Not to hard to do, but I've been doing it for a LONG time....
Love those stands......
easy to move, IMO
easy to hide ABOVE limbs....
many days each season I sit all day.......in a hang on stand.
gotta love it......or maybe just be crazy..lol

Only kind of stand i use. Have several over 30 foot. They are not easy to hand by can be done by one person. I find a tall staright tree i can climb with my climber and climb up with my climber to the desired height. Pull the hand on up and strap it on just above my climbers level. Then i go down in my climber screwing in the steps. Works great.

That's a good idea, but i prefer to get above the limbs for cover,,,,,,,,,that's why I never use a climber to hunt from....I just feel naked up there without limbs below me...

Standard safety practic is to never use branches as steps...they could be rotted inside and you'll never know until they break.
Use a safety rope with sliding prusic knot so you are attached to safety rope at all times between feet leaving ground and back again.

be sure to take the stand down each year or at least loosen the straps. check the straps closely every season. they can rot and break.....
