Share some of the places that you consider to be heavy mature buck cover. Places you have killed mature bucks, or best of all, pics or areas where you have seen mature bucks during daylight during hunting season.

I tell people the longer I hunt, the thicker stuff I get into and hunt. Use to be I wanted to see 100 yards in a couple directions...now a lot of times a couple of 40 yard lanes is it early season...

Thanks guys, hope this becomes something I can learn from and focus on more.

If I have to crawl or physically force my through it, it's heavy cover.

The most common areas of heavy cover are overgrown pastures, power-line right-of-ways, areas that have been heavily timbered and left to regenerate in hardwoods naturally, or clear-cuts that have been planted in pines.

While conducting a decade-long study on rub distributions, I took this picture of my "crew" measuring rubs in a section of thick regrowth cover habitat. The picture was taken in early February and the habitat is mostly dead tall-grasses, blackberry briers and hardwood saplings:

My favorite spot on my farm to hunt is an area that is about 5 acres that was timbered maybe 10 years ago. The area itself is so thick that it is darn near impossible to walk through. It however attracts deer like a magnet. Last year I spent a few days cutting a trail through to help funnel the deer past my stand. Worked like a charm.

Great bucks DA! I wonder why they like that "heavy cover".

Good deer DA...that does look like some thick saplings and I imagine if we were to see an areal of the property it would create some kind of funnel. So to speak a perfect storm for mature bucks in daylight hours during the rut.

RKenny, you always talk about thick cover...any examples?

And believe me guys I know I have thick cover but its days are limited and once it grows a few more years I want to have a plan for putting it back in.

Also, I try and find thick cover for bowhunting on the public ground I hunt.
