I also have an old Browning Belgium made 12 ga Semi Auto that was my Dad's, although I had to jump thru a couple of hoops to get it. When he died, I learned that a fella, whose Dad had owned that gun prior to my Dad buying it from him, had bought it from my Dad. I had heard that Dad had sold it for $400. When I approached the man and asked if he would be interested in selling it back to me, he said yea, I'll sell it to you for what I gave for it.....$500. I never said a word and took him the cash the next day for it. That guy committed suicide just a couple of years ago by shooting himself with a 300 magnum of some sort.

Wish I knew the history of some of my Grandpa's guns. Have a M1 Carbine, Rem mdl 1917, Ithica dbl barrel 12ga and a Ruger Mk I that were his. Dad and Grandpa didnt do to much together. Grandpa hunted but never took Dad.

That sux Ruger!
I have an old Springfield 20 ga pump that my Grandfather used and even more cherished is an old model 37 winchester that my Dads older brother bought when he turned 18. He was killed in a car wreck a year later, we have won many a Turkey shoot with that old single shot. My Dad really thinks a lot of it and hoefully nothing happens to it!

Haven't heard that one BSK, like to.
The written story of my great-grandfather's rifle was one of the first articles I ever had published in a major magazine (Deer and Deer Hunting).
To make a long story short, the gun is a Remington Model 14 (pump-action) in .32 Rimless. My great-grandfather bought it from a Montgomery Ward's catalog somewhere around 1914 or '15. The rifle had been oiled and packed away for over 60 years when my grandfather gave it to me. Getting the gun cleaned up and making ammo for it was a major undertaking (you couldn't buy new .32 Rimless ammo at the time--I had to go to gun shows to find reloading dies and old ammo I could unload, clean and rehand-load), but also a "labor of love" if you know what I mean.
With my grandfather's health failing, I knew I better take the gun hunting and just kill something--anything--with it to please my grandfather. He really wanted to see his dad's gun hunted with again. So I carried the rifle on the opening day of the '95 rifle season. I honestly wasn't expecting that much, but it was the local peak of the rut and I had found some amazingly large sign for the area. I had no idea I was going to get to see and then kill the largest buck I had ever seen at that time (and still one of the largest I've ever seen while hunting).
I carried the rifle on that one hunt, killed the buck of a lifetime, and then put the gun up. Someday, I'll let me daughter hunt with it. My grandfather made a special trip all the way from Florida to Tennessee to see the buck I had killed with his father's gun. That was the last time I ever saw my grandfather alive. He died just a few months later. But I knew he was thrilled I had killed that buck with his dad's gun.

I've got a 22LR Revelation single shot bolt action my granddad gave to me, 1 of my most cherished guns!
