My dad has an old .38 smith and wesson that was given to him by his mom just before she past away back in 2000. It has a bit of history on it as well. From her tellin of the story a guy had broken into my great grand dads pourch and was stealing his washing machice, my great grand dad shot 2 times and killed the man. He gave the gun to my grand mother shortly after she got married, and her husband used it to kill himself in her kitchen in the 60s. she carried that gun everywhere she went that i can remember. my dad says ill get it when he passes. I hope I never get that gun.

The only gun my father ever owned was a Model 63 Winchester. He didn't give it to me ,I just took it! I don't ever plan to part with it either!

It kind of got to be a joke when me and the wife would go visit my pawpaw. He had cancer and didn't have much time left. We would be talking and he would just get up and leave the room. My wife would ask what gun you reckon he's gettin. He'd always have the same line. I guess i'm about done with this gun so you can have it. He told me it came from when i was a little kid. He said i'd always tell him "pawpaw when you get done with that gun can i have it" I must have asked him for every gun he had. I still love getting them out and holding them. I even catch myself tearing up thinking about some of the trips we had together.

The best thing about it, is that I have some very old pictures of him goose hunting with the gun on the NC coast. top left, top right and a couple more in the collection have him holding the gun. Pics were taken in the late 1940's thru early 50's. The Pics and the gun to me are the most valuable items in my house. I still occasionally dove hunt with it, but it will stomp you.

I've got the exact same shotgun that was my dad's.
