I'm sure more than a few of you have guns that were given to you
by dad grand dad or uncle. My grandpa past a couple of guns down to
me. I actually killed my first deer with the 12ga he gave me. I don't
hunt with that shotgun anymore but the feel of it in my hands the smell
of the gun oil makes chills run up my back and remember that day 28 years
he handed me the gun said its yours. He died 3 years later. My granny
mailed me a hat of his still have it to.

Anybody else got a story?

Got a shotgun from each of my grandfathers. One a single shot with probably a roll of electrical tape holding it together and the other an L.C. Smith double barrel. To me, the LC is worth no more than the old, taped together single shot.

I've a couple too TR. One is a Mod 67 Win .22 ba ss that was given to me by my Grandmother a few years ago. That gun was used to kill my great uncle in a robbery. They were robbing his house, while he was there, and he took off to get the sheriff. They shot him in the back with it. \:\( Still have old black and white pics of the murder scene too.

Another is a db 12 ga, that, for the life of me I can't remember the manufacturer of, but it has a rich history as well. Seems my Great Grandpa and his brother were turkey hunting with it and has roosted some birds. There were three on a limb and my GGF told his brother to take the one on the right, while he would take the other two. Well, when he shot, his brother didn't shoot. He asked why he didn't shoot, and his brother told him that "you sorry blankity blank, you shot all three of'em!"

Good post TRR, brought back some fond memories for sure. ;\)

good story MUP. Haven't heard that one BSK, like to. Bet BW's got a good one too.

Just wanted to add when you get a gun like that in your hands on a hunt, it apparent that things we intensly argue over here really are a small part of enjoying the outdoors.

I got several from one of my grandfathers. he knew he was going to die and wanted me to have them instead of my cousins. He gave me a belgian Browning 12 gauge and a remington .35 pump before my aunt caught wind of it and started raising cain. he gave them a couple of rifles which they promptly sold, but hid a pistol for me. He told me where it would be when my grandmother died, and it was still there, well packed, 28 years later. It was his service revolver from when he was a TVA policeman. i still have all of them, and they will be passed to my son whom we named after him.

When my other grandfather died I got the only gun he owned, an old Savage .22 that hung above his fireplace for as long as I can remember.

I have all of my father's guns also, he gave them to me when I got married, he said they were going to be mine one day anyway, why not go ahead and use them. dad died last year, and he was happy to know his guns would always be safe and well taken care of. I will never sell any of them. if my children ever do, I will come back and haunt them.
