the real reason for turkey season

I have been turkey hunting several times this year. However, here in KY they have been tight lipped after coming off the limb. I hope it improves, but I always utilize turkey season to scout for deer.

I actually got busted by one tom who came in silent while Id been calling to one the next ridge over. I was logging the location of a good funnel in my phone...ohh well if I kill a deer there it will be worth it.

Anyone else use this time as a multipurpose outting?

Yep. Turkey season's just an excuse to get outside. Don't really care much about shootin' 'em. They just don't get the heart rate up like a big ol' buck.

I have found some of my best stand sites while Turkey hunting, not to mention some nice sheds! I will have to say however, I like my Turkey hunting pretty darn well and would do it regardless of deer scouting!

I felt the same until this year, a friend took my 6 year old son and me. Talk about heart pumping. He called in 3 nice gobblers within range, I couldn't get my son lined up on them but it was the most nerve wrecking situation Ive ever been in. I'm hooked!

I do the same. My problem on my newest farm to hunt is I can't deer hunt on it, only turkey. It seems the owner lets quite a few deer hunt on it, but only me and the son turkey hunt on it. Figures, because it's loaded with deer.
