I thought I'd seen it all. I really thought I had hunted some incredible deer and turkey hot spots. I even thought I had it "made" by having a small piece of the proverbial pie in Southern Illinois. My ignorance WAS blissful. I say WAS because I just got back from a 1 day, invitation only, turkey hunt in Wilson/Williamson/Sumner County, Tennessee. I wish now that I had never gone.
The guy I was hunting with had no clue how fantastic his hunting grounds are. He actually wants to hunt with us in So. Illinois this Fall. (HA-HA) I PROMISED him he'd be disappointed in that Illinois experience.
I think that by the time our hunt had ended we pretty well had convinced him that HE was in the Tennessee "GOLDEN TRIANGLE" and truly had no need to look elsewhere. The deer sign was UN-SURPASSED. And turkey??? Well, let's just say we had FOURlongbeards for four hunters by 10 AM. And BIG, MATURE 4 plus year old birds at that.
It is TRULY amazing how plentiful game seems to be in other parts of Tennessee. NOTHING LIKE MOST areas my friends and I hunt here in the Eastern part of the state. And it gets even worse the farther East you travel.
I read on Tndeer about some of these places, now I got to see some for myself. And all I can say is...IMPRESSIVE STUFF!
Around here, even does are hard to come by with a bow. There...the locals tell me to please come and get some, they don't want to bloody an arrow up with the pesky critters.
I saw/heard more turkeys in one day there, than in the last 2 years combined around here.
AMAZING to me that ANY agency can properly manage the ENTIRE State as well as they do. Because believe me, this state is VASTLY different from one Region to another.

Yea it really is crazy how you can tell the difference between counties. That area is huge on turkey hunting, there are turkeys everywhere. I go to school at CU in Wilson County and I get to drive by and see all the turkeys but don't get to hunt them because I don't have any right to any property out there but dang I wished I did.

Oh yeah, that area is great for turkeys and you're dead on about the deer in Williamson county. Just look at that county in the trophy room.

I told you Williamson County grows deer as big as anywhere in the world (antler-wise).

My parents house is on the edge of williamson and a bunch of my little brothers friends go to Ravenwood and hunt around out there. They hunt parcels of woodlots with no defined cover and no food sources and kill good deer every year. It really is a different world.
