I wrote, over the last few days,( I can only write with my left hand-takes some time.), some stories about turkeys I have killed. I have at least one Grand Slam. I have killed four with a bow and I am not a turkey hunter. I have killed one with a rock.

But in writing the column, it made me think about the emergence of turkeys here. It made me think about how turkeys came to be in Middle TN.

It's quite a story. Perhaps I'll tell it someday. Perhaps I'll tell about the time a turkey was roosted in a tree I had hung a climbing stand on and what happened when he flew out about the third pull up.

It was an old Baker stand. \:\)

I left mine on a tree in Hickman Co. I left it about 12 feet up.

I can remember reading in a game animal book, many years ago
about the "Wild Turkey". The segment was about how reclusive the
wild turkey was and how they needed the "deep woods" to survive
and thrive.

I wish I could remember who wrote it, but I can't. He is probably
dead now, but I wonder what he would think about the wild turkey
nowdays.

I can also remember the same thought process with the deer
restoration way back when. At first they were only stocked in
heavily wooded areas.

It didn't take long to learn, that both are "edge animals".
