exactly, unless you actually saw the same deer on the ground how would you know what the other hunter was shooting at?

Ok, let me rephrase the question: Who has proof that the neighbor shot the buck that you let pass? I still have.

Oops, ignore my post above.

But really, who cares? If that buck wasn't up to your standards, who cares if it was up to the standards of your neighbor? If that buck made your neighbor happy, more power to them.

Oh, it doesn't bother me Bryan, I was just wondering since these posts keep flaring up from time to time, who has actually witnessed the deed, or has seen the bucks after the fact. I'm happy for our neighbor each time he connects, which is a lot btw, and I talk with him frequently before, during and after the season. He's actually quoting some QDM philosophies to me now about shooting more does! Bad thing is, we don't have that many deer period to be shooting every one we see. My doe sightings totalled 9 this past season, with only four bucks seen as well, two spikes, a decent 7 pt(which I took with my ML), and a nice little 8 ptr that got a pass during rifle.

Before any of my neighbors started passing up yearling bucks, we would lose at least half the yearlings we were watching on trail-cam to our neighbors. Didn't really affect us much in the long run. They weren't taking any of the older bucks we were watching.

Now we have two neighbors that pass up young bucks and we are probably only losing 30-35% of our yearlings. However, we are now losing a few older bucks to the neighbors that pass up yearlings. Again, doesn't affect us that much.

I just don't worry about what my neighbors are killing. They have just as much right to those deer as we do.

That's actually when I would be getting a little concerned about the neighbors!

yep and i see on here so many times that it doen't matter what your neighbors kill, if you want to kill mature bucks and only have permisson on a small piece of land, it matters alot

you guys just say they need to become more skilled

how can all the skill in the world help you kill mature bucks when you only have access to 100 or so acres and everyone around you shoots the heck out of yearlings, i smart enough to realize they ain't gonna kill all of them but they can put a huge dent in them

i'm lucky i only have to deal with 2 guys on 35 acres that borders me all of the other properties around me that totals about 800 acres do not allow hunting at all

everyone does have the right to shoot whatever they want and i have no problem with that i would be the first to give my congrats to anyone no matter what they shot

everyone has personal goals and has the right to try to meet them

But that's the point. If you know how to manage habitat and deer herds, you can have that despite what the neighbors are doing.

Provide what older bucks want most--no matter the size of your property--and you can draw the very best the area can produce to your property.

The funny thing is the ones that say we need to let the smaller bucks go are the ones that shoot more of the ones I let walk. lol They either say they thought he was bigger or he kept coming back everyday so I couldn't take it anymore. It doesn't bother me what they kill. It's them saying we need to let them go when they are the people shooting them.

One neighbor is killing everything that crosses the fence and that would be fine except he is not checking them in or stopping with limits. Changing limits would not change this situation at all. His luck will eventually run out.
You should report him

sounds to me like a good spot,800 acres on the border that no one hunts sounds good to me

yep used to not be that way but in the last few years some people from florida moved in and bought about 300 acres on one side and then they had family move in later that bought about 250 acres that bordered what they had and they don't want anybody on it and my cousin owns land next to me, he used to hunt but he is no longer with us

Ha, well i will agree with half of that. If we did have a properly managed deer herd some could have that despite what the neighbors are doing. 3 bucks and very limited does is no way to properly manage a deer herd for this county. That's what needs to be improved around here, not the habitat (its mature buck paradise). We need some people that are interested in seeing TN IMPROVE as a deer state, even if its small. The only improvements TN is seeing is do to hunter efforts which is bull. Some effort from the state and so called experts is PAST DUE! Selling snake oil may help sell tags but it aint doing a [censored] thing to help the deer herd improve.
