Let a nice basket six walk 2 years ago, then boom shot on the next farm. That's where i ask the question....should I just shoot everything? The farm next to ours will shoot anything that walks past us. Should you shoot everything?Well, well its up to you,I cant say it doesnt bother me when it happens,it did this year, but I still wouldnt shoot a buck that was smaller than what Im after, because I would not enjoy it.

Did you see the buck dead?

i have let a couple of small bucks walk off later hearin a shot from the direction he went. of course i assumed somebody shot that deer only to see it 3 days later. exactly, unless you actually saw the same deer on the ground how would you know what the other hunter was shooting at? Ok, let me rephrase the question: Who has proof that the neighbor shot the buck that you let pass? I still have.
Oops, ignore my post above.
But really, who cares? If that buck wasn't up to your standards, who cares if it was up to the standards of your neighbor? If that buck made your neighbor happy, more power to them.

Yep, two years ago passed on a beautiful basket 8 pt with no tail. he was all over me during rut with my grunt call. three days later the neighbor who hunts on the property line of the farm i lease shoots, then hear a crashing sound behind me. so i get down, find the deer for them, yell to them that they can cross the fence onto my farm and retrieve the deer. i looked at the buck and asked if he's missing a tail they just looked at me like i was stupid, then they looked and said why yes hes missing a tail, Then i told them i passed him up days prior cause he needed to grow then he looked at the little buck and said that deer needed to be shot and that he wasnt going to get any bigger. whatta ya gonna do?

i know for a fact that it has happened to me several times
one time i watched a 4 pt for 20 min only 30 yds away during gun season and he went on around the hill off my property and i heard i shot around 9:00 about 11:00 i decided to go back on the ridge to see if they were still there and if so i wanted to know what they shot at or killed
when i got back there they were just loading it on the truck and without question it was the same buck, i said boys i just let that buck walk by me 2 hrs ago and one of them said thanks
that ticked me off when he said that i know it shouldn't have cause he had the right to shoot whatever he wanted but back then i was not very mature about such things
i went on to tell them about letting them walk and that if they did we would ALL benefit from it but they could have cared less
this property was my neighbors and he gives me and these guys permisson, i use to go back there alot cause i could enter my property better without spooking any deer but can no longer do that without getting onto a fist fight with these 2 guys, and to clear that up i have been nothing but nice to those guys and they have been A-holes from the beginning and i'm not the only one who has trouble with them

I agree...but, talking about it isn't necessarily worrying about it. But, I agree, not on my list

My step father let a basket 8 walk and a few minutes later it was my first bow kill.

Oh, it doesn't bother me Bryan, I was just wondering since these posts keep flaring up from time to time, who has actually witnessed the deed, or has seen the bucks after the fact. I'm happy for our neighbor each time he connects, which is a lot btw, and I talk with him frequently before, during and after the season. He's actually quoting some QDM philosophies to me now about shooting more does! Bad thing is, we don't have that many deer period to be shooting every one we see. My doe sightings totalled 9 this past season, with only four bucks seen as well, two spikes, a decent 7 pt(which I took with my ML), and a nice little 8 ptr that got a pass during rifle.

I see it happen all the time. The funny thing is the ones that say we need to let the smaller bucks go are the ones that shoot more of the ones I let walk. lol They either say they thought he was bigger or he kept coming back everyday so I couldn't take it anymore. It doesn't bother me what they kill. It's them saying we need to let them go when they are the people shooting them.
One neighbor is killing everything that crosses the fence and that would be fine except he is not checking them in or stopping with limits. Changing limits would not change this situation at all. His luck will eventually run out.
