What does everyone use now. The old permanone was awesome. When i used i never got ticks or chiggers. The new permanone must have been changed because it does not work as good. I bought some sawyers tick spray that military endorses. It blows also. Any thing on the market now that works as well as the old permanone?

Permanone still works for me. Duranone also seems to work pretty well.

For turkey hunting, it sounds a little strange, but I use whatever bug spray I can get my hands on. Ant and Roach spray just whatever. If it will kill ants and other stuff it will kill a tick. The stuff from the dollar general or dollar store works great.

Look for anything with Permethrin as the active ingredient. I usually go to co-op, they have some concentrate for spraying around barns. Just mix it with water down to the %level of Permanone and spray your clothes and let them dry. $10 will buy you about 10 gallons once you mix it with water. Also good to spray around the outside of your house for ticks, fleas, ants, etc.

I use repel Permanone, but the more-or-less full can is left over from last season. However, IMO if you wear calf length socks, and tuck you pants legs into your boots, your legs are fully protected anyway. Ditto LONG sleeve shirts with tight cuffs(I wear long sleeve camo tees). Wear a hat, spray repel(deet) around your collar and you are protected.

For ticks, perhaps (although not your hair and head). But that provides no protection from chiggers. Chiggers are microscopic and easily crawl through even tightly woven material, such as jeans.

Additionally around the top of the boots, waist, fly, etc. Also, a good final prevention for both of these vermin is a hot, soapy shower as soon as you hit the house.

I agree the older cans were much better, it would literally melt the ticks and leave little greasy spots. It also had the states listed where it was legal to use.
I don't know for sure, but I think Repel bought out whomever owned it before.
Peramone does not affect chiggers.
I'll have to try the mix from TSC.

Peramone does not affect chiggers.
Permanone (peramethrine--the active ingredient) is an insecticide. It kills nearly every insect that comes in contact with it.
Spray all the outer clothes surfaces with peramethrine and then let them dry before wearing them. Combine that with some high percentage DEET for exposed skin (face and hands) and no more chigger or tick problems. Although a shower and scrubbing down as soon as you get home couldn't hurt.
And by the way, Wally World has stopped selling Permanone.
If you can find it, "Duranon" is the same thing as Permanone.

I wear snake boots, stuff my pant leggings into them and this forces the ticks to crawl up 2/3 of my body before they can find flesh...... Works wonders and i dont feel greased up... Oh, and i tuck my shirt tail in to prevent them going under it.

All I know is with peramone (even the new cans) I get few ticks and lots of chiggers. When I go with Off or Repel, the chiggers go way down while the number ticks goes up.
We also don't follow their instructions. As we usually wear the same pants several days in a row, we spray our pants from at least the knee down everyday along with our socks/boots. Even then we get a half dozen or more everyday and sometimes lots more.

Chiggers are so small they can go right through the weave of your clothing--even tightly woven fabrics like denim. To protect agaist chiggers you must spray peramethrine on ALL of your outwear--every inch. And then use DEET on exposed skin; i.e. hands and face. I even spay my hair with DEET.
