BSK,

For skirting around ladder stands, do you use camo burlap or plain burlap?

Why use any skirting? Deer don't know what a ladder is. Ever seen Jeremih Johnson? "Elk don't know how many legs a horse has."

I think the idea is that you can move your legs a little bit now and again without being seen. I don't have any on my stands, I just stand up from time to time

I think he may have meant up on top of the stand. Either way I don't use any and do just fine.

After hearing about the idea a few years ago from BSK, I started to put burlap skirting around the shooting rail of the big two person ladder stands that we hunt out of with kids. The skirting has proven to be quite helpful in terms of hiding movement and deer not picking us off.

However, what I've been using for the past several years is the 54 inch by 12 foot camo burlap. The stuff is fairly thin so my oldest daughter has been hand sewing three of them together, which puts the cost of each skirt in about the $30 range.

It recently occurred to me (some in the past have deservedly referred to me a slow learner) that it would be a whole lot cheaper if I were just to use plain burlap. As Coach mentioned, I can't really think that it would make any difference, but since BSK was my original source for the burlap skirting idea I thought I'd first run the camo vs. plain burlap idea by him.

Personally, I use camo burlap, but I don't think it makes a hill-of-beans difference. The pre-cut to size burlap I can find locally just happens to be camo.

Around the shooters position, burlap makes a HUGE difference in how much movement the hunter can get away with without being busted.

We checked into buying large quantities of unprinted burlap and it turned out to be almost as expensive as the pre-cut camo-printed stuff.
