I have relatives in Pa.

They talk to me quite often about their hunting experiences there. It seems that there are very few clubs there and even fewer land owners. Most hunting land in the state is public.

Basically saying, hunters there can go pretty much anywhere they want.

Would you like that for Tennessee?

Would you rather have the freedom to hunt where you wanted and give up the privacy of a hunt club or privately owned land or would you prefer private land ?

The benefit to private land is simply that you can control (mostly) who is hunting around you, but with public land, you would not.

To me, public land is great if that's all you have, but it would be hard for me to get used to NOT KNOWING if someone is going to walk up on you at any given time or being worried about leaving stands out there....

Would you be happier with the increased freedom to go where you want (unlimited acreage)or would you rather stick to private land (less area to hunt)and the security it provides....in most cases.

NO! Not wanting to turn my land over to the state at all, seems like we have fought a few wars over that.

For me, the benefit of private land is controling the habitat, the management practices, and the hunter density.

NO I WOULD ABSOLUTELY NOT WANT TO HUNT PUBLIC LAND.

This area is St. Mary's , Pa. Some of my relatives are members of the one "shooting" club that they have in that area. It has ranges and some hunting ground. My wife's uncle hunts public land around that county . he always talked about all the public land, not any sort of state parks or anything like that, just areas where no one other than the state owned it...and none of this land is public like we have here like a state owned refuge or anything like that....just land that is open . In my half dozen or so trips to that area, I never saw a REFUGE sign or even a NO TRESSPASSING sign......

We went elk spotting many times at night and I'd ask about the land we pulled in to and looked for elk and every place was "public land", or at least that's what he told me.

Don't know where that is. I have a sister and broter-in-law and cousins in Nittany Moutains area and have done shows in Harrisburg, Painted Rock, Plaster Rock and Valley Forge. Seemed to me there were more clubs and leases up there than down here. There was also a whole lot less concern with deer management. Dr Alt tried to make a difference and got run off. He gave hunters what they asked for. Turned it out it wasn't what they expected.

If you want pinpoint accuarcy, google Tom or Betty Lou Fegley. Sproory, can find their phone number.

I've done both quite a bit. I used to hunt what is called "the Pentwater Plains"..in northwest Michigan...bow and gun. Probably one of the most dangerous things I've ever done. When it gets light out in the morning you'd think you were sitting in a pumpkin patch with all the hunters around during gun season. Not to mention the ones that come crashing through right at primetime.

Indulge me with a quick story....I was sitting in a ground blind in the plains when right before daylight three hunters came walking my way. I could see their flashlights and the noise was deafening. I flashed my light at them to let them know I was there...one of the yelled "we see you" in a nasty way. Right after daylight I kept hearing something moving down the hill from me...sounded like a deer. It was one of the hunters that came through...he was sitting not 40 yards from me in a metal chair that he brought in. I lost it. I crashed out of my blind and headed right towards him calling him a few choice words all the way there. I told him I could have shot him...why did he want to ruin my hunt...blah...he said he liked hunting in the blind I had...I told him to take the dam blind and kiss my "you know what"...he said something not so nice and when I turned around he must have thought I was going to shoot him cause last I saw of him he was walking a pretty fast pace due south chair in tow.

Never again....

I like hunting private land. But I don't mind hunting public land from time to time.

I use to belong to a club in Tioga, PA and hunted Potter Co., PA. Great hunting but it was a lease for 99 years. I like the private land better. There is a lot more benefits to it....
