No. The agreement was he couldn't claim it as a world record. It has been measured...officially. What hadn't been done was the required x-ray of the skull. There is nothing to prevent B&C from declaring it a world record as long as Mitch does not display it as such. For that he wass paid $25,000. But I am sure this is a hoax.

Not what was reported by Outdoor Life and Richard Smith in two of his books.....
"Rompola signed an agreement with Milo Hanson’s business associate, whereby Rompola agrees not to refer to his deer as the “World Record.” Rompola also will not enter his deer with Boone and Crockett as long as Hanson’s buck holds the top spot. He signed off on that—for no money—yet passed on the $20,000 two Michigan men put up if Rompola would have the rack X-rayed and entered with Boone and Crockett."
And yes, it probably is a hoax...

I respectfully dissagree. Read it again. Richard and I said the same thing. The buck has been officialy measured by three CBM scoreres. It has not been entered into any record books and has not been claimed at any time by Mitch as a world record or displayed. That is as per agreement with Hansen's folks. Mitch was payed $25,000 and as far as I know, he took it. I have never heard anything to the contrary. According to his son, those are the facts.

I'm sure you have a better take on it than me BW...like many I just know what I read. I did talk to the editor of a Michigan based magazine about why his partner seemingly attacked Rompola right from the start and he gave me some interesting info on that...but, as far as what we are talking about here...only what I read....like the quote above that was in many publications including OL...

No RKenney....they travel around to shows and get paid to show up, various sponsors pay them money also to endorse products. Because it looked like any day there may be a new record the Hanson people were feeling it in the wallet. So, apparently they felt they needed to put a stop to it so they could continue making top money off their deer. Mitch was hurting their revenue...
