Are you a limit person?
Not just deer hunting but any species.....do you set a goal of getting the limit every time that you go out.....Personally, I will never kill three doe per day or ever kill the three buck limit per season, unless I've taken two 130 plus deer and I see a 150 inch later. I just don't value "killing" that much.
I have gone buck-less many seasons simply because I saw nothing that I wanted to shoot.....
It's funny how we change or maybe "morph" is a better word. Back in the day, I always thought in terms of limits. Now, I think in terms of goals like "learning something" and less in "killing something" and especially in "killing the limit"......
The only numbers that interest me any more are "gross inches"..! haha.
I do set a sort of "limit" to the number of days I want to hunt for a season......if I don't meet those numbers, I sort of feel like I didn't put forth the effort and in some cases I feel "DEPRIVED".
Any thoughts?

I feel like there are several stages in a deer hunters life. There was a time that I enjoyed killing every legal deer I saw. The higher the limits the more I killed and the more I liked it. In the last 8-10 years I have grown in to the fact that I dont want to kill every deer I see and only want to shoot mature bucks and a few does a year. But it sure was fun back in the day when me and my buddy would come home after a out of town hunt with deer stacked in the back of the truck. That brought back some good memories-I may have to start that again.

Every time I hit the outdoors with weapon or rod I absolutely intend to have success. What I call success has definitely changed over the years in terms of quality, but I absolutely try to be succesful each and every time I go! I used to like just catching several Bass, now I try to catch several GOOD bass every time I go. I used to want to kill bucks, now I want to kill 3 GOOD bucks. My desire to be succesful has not changed at all. I have just tried to better my skills over the years so I can achieve my now higher goals. Anybody that says they dont care if they are succesful or not is kidding themselves, why even carry a gun/rod if you dont want to use it, carry a camera instead.

I kill quite a few and have at times taken my limit but most of the time I don't because I'm mostly looking for bucks .

Fishing and turkey yes deer no. It is unrealistic to think you will kill three does every time you go into the deer woods. Even if you did what the heck would you do with all that meat? Now this is not to say that I have not limited out on deer I have on a couple of occasions. Late in the season frezzer was empty and I got to feed the family. Man let me tell you about getting four deer out of the woods and gutting and processing. One needs lots of beer and four sharp knives and it doesn't hurt to have a friend or two. You know to help drink all your beer.

It just depends on what I am hunting reallyl. When I go duck hunting I want a limit every time I go out. The same with squirrel and dove hunting. But with deer season most of the time I will only shoot 1 deer a year but he is a big un! And during turkey season I would like to kill my limit of turkeys but it never seems to work out that way. But I would like to ha ha!

No and yes...Its what ever comes my way. Yes I want meat in my freezer and the doe's do that. No to the bucks unless it is one I want to take...But I never set a limit on myself...just hunt....

Dove is the only game I shoot for the limit. I will shoot 3 does in a sitting if I don't have my freezer meat yet. I'd rather spend the time processing them just once rather than 3 seperate times.

harvesting an animal is only a small part of hunting for me
when i'm in a deer stand i promise you i not thinking about taxes,the wars or the other daily stress factors
watching the fawn play or otters pounce on each other is better than any movie
yes i carry my rifle because no coyote is going to get by me
i still get excited when the brush is rustling behind me and I'm waiting for them to show themselves. but I've let more walk in the last few years than i taken. I started deer hunting back in the mid sixties and alot of days back then it was rare to even see a deer much less get a shot at one. so i've been through the phases too when i shot one whevever i got the chance

I eat a lot of venison! It is my main source of meat. Living in unit B means I must tag out to fill the larder for the year. I don't get but one opportunity to hunt unit L every year so that has to count. Applying for two WMA hunts is an insurance policy for me.

With a "one deer per day" limit in my area I try to limit every chance I get. But that is mostly focused on does as we are overrun with them and if I and a few others don't do the same winters like what we just experienced will do the deed for us.
My son and I killed eight does on our property this year. He{son} hunted very little as he is now living away from home at college.

I tsake it day bye day..... I never know until the next day comes... Some days I pass and some days I put one down range... Depends on the season and the hours I'm working during the season.. I have hunted meat and antlers.....
P.S. I'm not for controlling hunters for the the purpose of trying to prove a point.... Hunting is supposed to be fun...
