It's funny not to feel like the Lone Ranger on this one...
I have to agree with Winchester on this one...If you hunt enough it will happen to all, in some form.

Short Story:
There were six bucks in a group, early season...And yes, you guessed it...Picked out the biggest one, drew my bow and shot the smallest one....It happens.... \:\(

If you hunt long enough you will make mistakes, we all do.

I dont try to inventory my bucks to the point of identifying them on the fly when a fast paced encounter presents itself. I handle each encounter as if I have never saw the buck before. I judge him on the hoof and decide if he is a shooter or not right then. I have found that if you try to id bucks by a picture from months earlier, its too easy to make these type mistakes, and things change also, like broken main beams, major tines broken, etc. the main thing here is to not bash others for killing young/small bucks, as it can come back to haunt you! Right Wes?? \:o

Yes it did and I apolgized for it

I rarely make mistakes and shoot a deer thinking it was another deer simply because I rarely see a buck twice. Where I hunt, I have very little time to judge a deer and decide whether or not to shoot.....

I have walked up on deer wondering if I should have shot him, but most times I decide that YES, I should have. A 100 inch deer and a 130 inch deer may not be too easy to distinguish between in heavy cover.....especially if he is chasing a doe or just passing through , quickly.

Actually, I find it more difficult to distinguish between shooter bucks than between shooter does........true story. I hate to mistake a 2 year old doe for a mature doe.....

it happens........just part of it.

Nope. Any deer that I have ever shot (or shot at, for that matter) was being intentionally targeted to be on the ground. Now whether or not they actually made it there is an other story.. ;\) To clarify, if I take the shot, I will be satisfied if the deer is on the ground as a result of my taking that shot. If it turns out to be a 6 pt and I thought he had brows, so be it, I really wouldn't consider it a mistake, b/c I was after him regardless, for other reasons as well.

Yes I have . Shot a pretty good seven one time after letting him go the previous weekend but like you I only had a split second to shoot and thought he was the big one I seen before .
