So far I haven't done it, knock on wood. With the place and the way I hunt it is highly unlikely I will have to make that instant split second decision to shoot. I always try to be sure of my intended target. I can see how it can easily happen in some situations. Now there has been a few time when I wish I would have shot but didn't. Several times I've kick myself for not taking the chance. Either it was a borderline buck or was waiting on the perfect shot which never happened even though the shot I had was not really that bad. After the first time not recovering a buck I said I would not take a shot I was not sure of. That was the worst feeling I ever had while hunting. I still enjoyed the hunt regardless of what mistakes have been made.

i've came to the conclusion if you have to think about it dont shoot. i had to think on a 115'' 9pt 2 years ago and ended up killing it and regretted it after that.
the one i want to kill is the one that walks out and you know is a definate 130'' or more

Shockingly, that's one mistake I've never made (and I consider it shocking because I've made every other mistake possible). I've not accidentally shot a young buck thinking he was older. Now I certainly HAVE shot younger bucks than I was after, but I knew they were younger when I shot them. I just got frustrated with lack of sucess towards my goal.

Of course, now that I've said I've never made that mistake I'll be guaranteed to make it this coming year! $\:\($
