older deer/better age classes/QDM on public hunting lands?
Like areas with limited permit draws or antler restrictions
Or does TWRA even manage for QDM on public lands?
Thanks

...and Oak Ridge and Laurel Hill.
But Catoosa and President's Island are probably the best examples.

unless they've been reinstated, oak ridge doesn't have atler restriction anymore...

the city of oak ridge and DOE nixed the antler restrictions. the hunts at oak ridge WMA are solely for population control. the ONLY reason it was ever opened for hunting was all the oak ridge residents and DOE employees were tired of wrecking their vehicles.

Hopefully VAAP will re-open as well or get ready travelers to hit a boat load of deer!

But while it existed, it was an example of antler-restriction management used in TN.

John Tully, Moss Island, and Earnest Rice have antler restrictions. Natchez Trace was for a time but was determined to be unsuccessful so it was abandoned. Some areas have restricted gun seasons or only allow archery equipment after certain dates. Some are well known, others are sleepers.
As far as the lessons learned? Success varies with each situation. Controlling access, ensuring proper data collection, and compliance vary widely. Some places it works and others it does not. TWRA goals for deer hunting on WMA's vary as well. Some take on a form of QDM or trophy management others are just a place for a first time hunter with no private ground to hunt to go hunt for any deer that makes him happy.

Didn't they try this at Natchez Trace a long time ago?
