I take them to the police station, and leave a note on the tree telling them where they can pick them up. If they are wooden, I burn them right there, or saw them to pieces. The worst thing i have ever done by far in my life, was 2 years ago. On opening day of youth season, I found Bubba and Bubba Jr. in their newly installed 2 man stand on my property. I made them climb down and watch me destroy their stand by bending the ladder portion around a tree with help from a buddy of mine, and then stomping the seat off of it. When I informed them the next step was the GW coming, they quickly picked up the pieces and went home, never to return again.
I have found over the years, as wrong as it may seem, that the harsher and meaner you are to trespassers the less recurrences there will be with them. If they believe you are insane, they will be afraid to come onto your property. Thats pretty sorry to do to a kid.I know they were not allowed on the land but there was no reason to do that to a kid. Can't believe you would get on here and brag about it. i don't think so. i hope it taught him a lesson. It was not the kids fault it was the dads.He should have pulled the dad aside and done what ever he was going to do.The kid might not of known he was even doing anything wrong.Besides he should have called a GW to handle it instead of trying to act big and bad because they had the kid and father out numbered.Something tells me if he had been alone and walked up on two adults he would have handled it a little different.
Not at all, I was born partly stupid. I am not afraid of anyone, and certainly not afraid to confront someone who is poaching property I worked dam hard to buy, and work dam hard to manage. Zero tolerance is the only way to keep it under control.
If you came home and someone was in your backyard how would react?

If I was on someones land by mistake and it would be a mistake. No one would destroy my tree stand. We would call game warden pay fine etc.. if need be.

I have an uncle that has been farming for several years now. I asked him years ago why he didn't POST his property. He told me that most people will do what they want to do regardless of whether the property is posted or not. Especially if it is out in BFE. He would prefer to leave it unposted rather than fixing fences or gates all the time. A lot of it has to do with trust and responsibility for others. I can say that the 15 years he owned 200 acres of good bottom land on the Duck River in Hickman county, he never had problems with fences, destroyed crops etc...He says that posted property can infuriate the wrong person to do things they shouldn't. That is his reasoning.

Put it back up on the tree, chain it (with your lock), and hunt out of it. If he comes to get in it while you are in it you can tell him what you think of him.

I've found a couple on our lease. I put a very conspicuous plastic bag with a note asking them to remove the stand. If the stand is still there at end of season the stand will be removed and re-used elsewhere.
The first couple times it was never touched all year. The second two stands, the landowner told me he hadn't given anyone else permission, but a week late he called and said the stands belonged to a neighbor, that he had forgotten he'd given permission to. I'm glad I hadn't removed the stands right away.
Obviously, if you own the land, there wouldn't be this mistake. But if you are leasing it, and the landowner isn't a hunter, misunderstandings like this can happen.
