Control predators. You want more deer sightings and bucks with bigger antlers? control your predators. want deer that are much more relaxed and are not stressed? control your predators. Coyotes and Bobcats do more damage to your population than you think. What say you?

Somebody tell me what good are yotes anyway?

I agree, and the very best and most effective predators are the ones carrying a bow/rifle! Seriously, I agree Rich. I think in some areas Fawn mortality can be pretty high! I dont think however that Coyotes and Bobcats are much of a threat to the adult deer. I have watched too many times with deer and Coyotes or even a bobcat a time or two, in the same general area. They keep a close eye on each other, but thats about it, when only adults are involved.

But... the question is how much stress do coyotes put on deer? Regardless of age a deer that has to constantly be very alert of it's surroundings is a very stressed deer. A few weeks ago I watched 3 deer at my place and they all were on high alert. Why? deer season is over very few people in the woods. When they are constantly feeling the stresses of predators it takes it's toll. I will say it has an effect on antler growth as well. While people are worried about things they can not control (soil) I thin predator control should be at the top of the list for anyone manageing property.

I agree rich, but Id say domestic dogs are worse than these two combined. Once a group gets it in mind they like to run deer they do it all the time!
You got any experience trapping? Im going to trap some coons this year and would like to try some yotes but need to learn what Im doing a little better for yotes (Ive done coons).

I do not, but I will PM you some VERY good info about this later. I have thought about trapping on a very small level, not sure yet.
