good deal. Thats what Im looking at. Just on and around my land to try and get the ones that move in. I also know where the bobcat den is so I took one of those out this year with the bow...passed a young one with the gun. Hunting was too good!!!

Coyote population is definetly exploding in TN and the southeast. We need a consorted effort by us hunters to take as many as possible to help keep the population in check.

Control predators. You want more deer sightings and bucks with bigger antlers? control your predators. want deer that are much more relaxed and are not stressed? control your predators. Coyotes and Bobcats do more damage to your population than you think. What say you?
There has never been a coyote or bobcat killed off of my property in Miss, our deer herd has to be constantly controlled through harvests, and our overall herd quality continues to improve year after year. They are also not stressed or jumpy.
What has a bigger impact IMO is human intrusion constantly on deer. I am sure yotes pick off some each year, but on none of the properties I hunt/manage has it ever appeared to be an issue.
Now don't get me wrong, I have ZERO problem with people busting yotes, kill them all for all I care. Leave the bobcats out of it, they are not a problem, and are supposed to be here.

I agree rich, but Id say domestic dogs are worse than these two combined. Once a group gets it in mind they like to run deer they do it all the time!
Yup!

I agree, and the very best and most effective predators are the ones carrying a bow/rifle! Seriously, I agree Rich. I think in some areas Fawn mortality can be pretty high! I dont think however that Coyotes and Bobcats are much of a threat to the adult deer. I have watched too many times with deer and Coyotes or even a bobcat a time or two, in the same general area. They keep a close eye on each other, but thats about it, when only adults are involved. But... the question is how much stress do coyotes put on deer? Regardless of age a deer that has to constantly be very alert of it's surroundings is a very stressed deer. A few weeks ago I watched 3 deer at my place and they all were on high alert. Why? deer season is over very few people in the woods. When they are constantly feeling the stresses of predators it takes it's toll. I will say it has an effect on antler growth as well. While people are worried about things they can not control (soil) I thin predator control should be at the top of the list for anyone manageing property. I agree somewhat Rich, but I have had mixed results/reactions from deer encountering Coyotes. I have saw them go on fairly high alert and pay close attention to them. I once even saw a coyote chasing a fawn, a good size fawn in August, then Momma doe got involved and literally ran the Coyote off. Then on the other hand, many many times I have saw them pass within 20 yards of each other, and barely even acknowledge each other. This past fall in Illinois we hunted around a 120 acre corn field, and on several afternoons their were about a half dozen resident Coyotes that were hunting the edges daily. The deer would pour into this field and like i said, at times they would be right alongside the Coyotes and I never saw as much as a jump from the deer. I will agree however that in the Spring and early Summer I think the Predators cause the deer much more stress and problems like you stated earlier. Im just not sure how much damage they actually do on an all around basis? Either way they are fun to shoot and trap! I know little about trapping myself, but would love to learn and teach my boys a little about it if the chance ever came along! Good luck with it!

rich,
Somebody tell me what good are yotes anyway?
I take it you've never had yote tenderloins or yote stew?
Nah, me neither.

Something to think about. Can't hurt! At best, you help out the deer herd...at worst, you get some good practice hunting.

Ever seen a coyote cruzing back and forth in a tall fescue field in May? I wonder what they are looking for? I was once told they were after mice and rabbits, but I often wondered, after seeing a fawn fight for it's life with 2 coyotes tearing it apart.
