Not sure that I get this statement.......so am I being immature when I put for the the effort that I do and go out with passion and determination...?

Only you can answer that. Son's football or soccer game or go hunting? Daughter's birthday party or go hunting? How serious is hunting to you?

Only person who can answer that is you. Passion and determination are not the same as serious. I use to make love with passion and determination but I usually wasn't very serious about it.

I knew a guy once that while his wife was in labor he was at a duck blind drawing that he just couldn't miss. I think they ended up divorced.

I have never put any kind of hunting before my family. that's where we interpret the meaning of serious, differently.

I'm a casual fan of alot of things. I like baseball, basketball and even a tad bit of nascar but I rarely watch an entire game or race. Since I got the NFL ticket on Directv and TiVo, I have not missed one single play of a Steelers game(about five years now)I am serious about the Steelers and enjoy every second of it......Since I fell in love with deer hunting, I rarely miss an opening day and normally go hunting many more times than 90% of the hunters that I know. NOT because I am obsessed with killing a big deer, but because I LOVE it so much......

I take my relationship with my wife very seriously and do everything in my power to make her happy and be there for her.....does that mean I ruin things by BEING SERIOUS and I don't ENJOY emincely every second I spend with her...NO.

I have a friend that LOVES to duck hunt. he spends countless hours and money every year getting ready to go and going. I go with him a couple of times a year, just to go. I could not care any less about how many we kill. he does, however. I just enjoy getting out there but he has a passion for it. Should I try to convince him to not be SO SERIOUS, and to just ENJOY IT.....heck no! I know exactly how he feels . he wouldn't go sit in a treestand five minutes to kill a GOAT, as he calls them. But he respects my passion just like I do his......

IMO, you take passion, desire and a real LOVE for deer hunting as being TOO SERIOUS......Like I said before, I have no problem with the casual hunter, such as you. Someone that gets out there in nature and enjoys it. if that's what they enjoy, then more power to them.

I'm starting to repeat myself, so I better close this down...haha.

Simply saying that without deer hunting, much like my family, I would be lost. I take that very seriously.

I though about this for awhile, before deciding to post. I find this whole argument to be a faulty dilemma. Life isn't usually A or B, only.

Which reminds me:

A man goes into the doctor's office because he just hasn't been feeling quite right. Doctor tells him that he has bad news and really bad news.

"Wow!" the man says, "Ain't it usually good news and bad news? I guess I'll take the really bad news first."

Doctor says "You have cancer."

"Oh crap." the man replies, "What's the sort of bad news?"

Doctor answers "You have Alzheimer's."

The man replies, "That's a relieve! At least I don't have cancer!"

Pretty good post, BH. But for me, deer hunting is just something I do. It comes in fall just like football. So I do it. For many years, I did it for a living. Today, I do it just to enjoy it. I don't care if I kill anything, don't even care if I see anything.

I don't take it seriously. I don't care if I miss opening day. I don't even know for sure when it is. I don't sit around all year and dream of killing a monster buck. I'm not that serious about hunting. I don't agonize over rut dates or moon phases. Can't understand people who do. Just can't see worrying yourself sick over something that i supposed to be fun and over which you have no control.

That pretty much sums it up for me. It ain't the end of the world if I miss it.
