I enjoyed reading the "pot stirrers" post. It was entertained by alot of the post, but I never got upset, like alot of the members do on here.
I always "wrote it off" and believed what I believe, whether I am right or wrong. Actually, some of the post could be right, but many were scrutinized because of there beliefs and the way they presented them.

I don't know that we need a serious forum. In fact, I have always wondered that. Why is it important to be serious? Life is too short to be serious all the time.
We have a QDM forum and a potitical forum and a cooking forum (best forum on the site) so why can't these serious threads be posted on the general forum and just do away with this one? Been over a year since anything new has been posted.

I'll agree with you that life is too short to be serious all the time. That's why we have the general forum as well as some of the others. This forum was intended for posting on deer hunting without having to wade through all the other stuff to get there. Reading through some of the recent posts it seems that much of that distinction is gone. How in the world some folks can begin to relate some of the topics and their replies to deer hunting is beyond me. Seems pretty simple to me...deer or deer hunting topics only. I'd love to have your granny's muscadine jelly recipe and I'm surprised to hear that someone finally came out of the closet but those topics don't belong in here.

I kind of agree but at least here you can go away for a weekend and come back and get up to speed on a topic instead of having 173 "I just pooped" or "Whats for lunch" threads to sift through. Not knocking those threads they kill time and build community but if there is something I truely want to discuss I like knowing it will be here not under a slush pile somewhere in an all inclusive forum (speaking of all inclusive 9 days till I go to Mexico!)

Been over a year since anything new has been posted.
Even so but why does it have to be something new? Every day a new hunter comes along and wants to ask a question that we have hashed out a hundred times. to them it has never been asked. Biggest problem is we have no time for new hunters.
A year or so ago you said you were done with the general forum. Why then would we want to put the serious forum and the general forum together?

Very few want to talk about whitetail hunting on the first days of spring. I enjoy reading and posting on all the forums but, it was the serious deer hunting forum that brought me here and that will keep me coming back.
Good point Rich. I like reading things that new members post too. Each new member brings something different to the table. Never know when or who You will learn something from.

I can't say that I understand where this thread is going, but in my opinion, the Serious Deer Hunting Forum on TnDeer is far from pitiful. I scan a lot of state-level and national forums on the web. I will say without a moment's hesitation that this forum is by far the most active, the most informative, and has the largest group of knowledgeable hunters anywhere. We should be proud of that.
I, for one, hope we can keep this forum positive and focused on meaningful discussion that will help us all become better deer hunters.

Its always cyclic, ups and downs. I will agree however that nobody cares to know how many tame tukeys are in your yard on the serious DEER forum, or why you chose your screen name, etc. Since I started the screen name thread, I'll explain why I did and why I think it is relevant to this forum.
I'm amazed from time to time at the lack of civility and manners that I see here. I'm sure I'm guilty, but I do try to stay positive.
I know that in face-to-face situatios, I've never spoken to anyone or been spoken to by anyone in the way that I see here sometimes. I think it's kinda like when I scream something ugly at another driver who just cut me off. Yes I'm mad, but I would certainly express that anger in a more civil manner if I was face to face. It's all too easy to scream at a nameless, faceless car.
I think the situation is sorta similar here. We're talking to a bunch of nameless, faceless screen names and it's easy to forget the rules of polite society in that situation. I was hoping that by exposing a little bit of the personality behind that anonymous screen name, that we (myself certainly included) might get a little better aquainted.
And since that thread has been viewed 600 and something times so far, I think it is a little bit of an overstatement to say that nobody cares.
Just my attempt at community-building.

Thats great and a valid point, but I could also post nude pics of Tiffany Lakosky and get 60,000 views but it still wouldnt really pertain to the SERIOUS DEER forum. None of it bothers me much, but when the questions are asked, answers will be given! I also agree that face to face much of the bs posted on any forum would be removed!

Evidently, you missed my novels.......
IMO, the Serious Forum is great for those of us that wish to actually discuss deer hunting on a deer hunting (tndeer.com) site. Most times, topics stay on the front page longer on the Serious Forum and there is "usually" far less attempts to anger people there than on the General...... IMO, the General Forum is more like the playground and the Serious Forum is more like the classroom......
Both forums have their place.......you just have to decide where you want to spend your time......and if you have anything POSITIVE to contribute.
Hey and everyone loves a good fart joke.....!!!!!!!

I print your novels and put them in the "library" for all to enjoy after having some of my bucksnort chili!!
The screen name thing has been done quite a few times PH...but over in the General Forum...not a biggie
I like seeing pics of deer camps, stories of deer camp and what transpired while you were there, how generations of families attend the same deer camp, some of the stories told and all of the lies....Probably not serious stuff but not what I want to wade through the general forum to read.
Although, I don't plant foodplots or put out salt or anything, I do like stories of the plantings and what you planted..how the deer are reacting to it and what you hope to accomplish...
I like Bowriter's quick wit and BSK's outdoor science approach, although he can be funny as heck too...I like how Rich pokes at BW and BW keeps on telling stories....I don't like quibbling on a dead subject but even that is better than any more of BWs turkey pics..<grin> What do you like?
I mean there are lots of things to talk about here that would not work in any other forum...but...you all are just dropping the ball is all I can say...you done quit on me...

See a topic you are not interested in. Don't click on it. Dumb as I am, I learned how to do that. "How high should I hang my stand?" just walk on by. "One or two buck buck limit?" Just go on by. "Are Tiffanies real or bought?

many times, IMO, people read entire threads they care nothing about to see if anyone gets bashed .......
sort of like rubberneckers, they just can't help themselves....also, many of us want to see what other people think about OUR comments on a particular thread.
just like our kinfolk, we like to protect and defend our words and opinions.....

Just my attempt at community-building. , but I could also post nude pics of Tiffany Lakosky Well what are you waiting for? Do it. lol

Actually, I'm just as much of an A-hole in person as I sound like on this site.
Just ask anyone who knows me...

Many times,BSK aside, a forum may give people a chance to express themselves who may not be able to do it verbally. It may not have anything to do with face to face...just they may express themselves better in written form. Some like to "stir the pot" and I don't like that...why say or post something just to get a rise out of everyone...Isn't that like yelling "fire" in a building full of people?
I also don't think that being "direct" or being "discerning" makes you a a-hole...that's just how some people are...Using tact and diplomacy takes years to master so many feel it isn't worth it.
If the definition of diplomacy is allowing someone else to have "your" way...then, it isn't such a bad thing to learn

Rich, there are some people on here that..well, I don't see how I couldn't like them based on some of their posts and their reactions to others posts...others I'm sure they wouldn't like me based on their posts. When I say like, I mean to hang around the campfire with or go have a beer...But, for the most part we are all part of a hunting family..to one degree or another..or we wouldn't be interacting on this site...
I was reading Woods n Water..a Michigan publication....In their forum and letters to the editor you'd swear it was tndeer guys writing and posting. Same stuff..QMA, Baiting...blah blah...

The serious forum is my favorite forum on here. I try and stay out of the general forum as much as I can for several reasons. My only complaint is the people that come in here and post just to post. Why somebody feels it is necessary to post a smiley face and move on to the next thread and post another smiley face is beyond me. A lot of good information gets burried by doing this.

Seriously....have we hit the bottom.....put your 2 cents down and go on with it....the sun will rise and the sun will set and there is nothing you can do about it...will it change the price of tuna fish...please...
Without question...this site gives you the chance to express your opinions to a degree good or bad. This site has one of the best inter-reactions I've ever seen...
Life is to short to be serious all the time...
I like sitting around the camp fire and talking deer hunting with a joke thrown in.

personally.......I'm pretty quiet/shy in person. Unless, of course, you ask my opinion and then don't be surprised by what you hear. False opinions are a sign of a weak character..Lying about your opinion to please someone else is self-destructive.....IMO. We all have to look in the mirror at some point.
So, if you don't want to know, don't ask ME! haha
here I can give my opinion freely without having to be asked...haha.

Man, the serious forum has posts that someone's pm box is full...lol Cant think of a better way to let him know Just saying that's how dead we are here FH... BH I print your novels and put them in the "library" for all to enjoy after having some of my bucksnort chili!! The screen name thing has been done quite a few times PH...but over in the General Forum...not a biggie I like seeing pics of deer camps, stories of deer camp and what transpired while you were there, how generations of families attend the same deer camp, some of the stories told and all of the lies....Probably not serious stuff but not what I want to wade through the general forum to read.
