I have always put corn out in front of my cameras for better picture taking opportunities. But, corn is so expensive and those raccoon bandits steal so much of it, I have tried to come up with an alternative. I was at my mom's yesterday and she had just come from the feed store and had 3 big tubs - (probably 50lbs.) of something called "sweet lix". They make it for horses, cows, goats, etc. It is a tub of hardened molasses with nutrients, minerals and salt. Has anyone ever tried this for attracting deer to your cameras? I just wondered how it would work. I would imagine it would work quite well and last a long time.

I've got a buddy that use to put out something called "sweet feed" and it worked great!

"Sweet feed" is also a horse feed.

The sweetlix is not sweet feed. It is a tub full of solid, hard molasses. My mom gets a 50 lbs. tub for $20. It would not be eaten like grains or corn but licked, like a salt block. I would think it would last for a long time. Maybe several months.

Not around here it won't! Lucky if it lasts 3 weeks. Between deer and rain, they won't last long.

Great choice!
We have been using Sweetlix for years now and have always had good luck with it. We had to mix a little corn with it at first to get them interested. But now they take to it quick. We only put out the granular blend, comes in 40 lb bags. It is a little more expensive but it has the most Magneisium , Phos. & calcium we can find. We get it at our local feed store. I think its better for them than most of the mineral and salt blends on the market made "Just for Deer"

Same here. One or two in the early spring, then the same in mid to late summer, sometimes even before that!
