I think hunting is at an all time best in TN and TWRA is the backbone for that! The statements I make and the questions I ask are not for that I think TWRA is doing a bad job or not doing their job at all, its just asking can we tweak it or do better with it?

I agree with you bigwes50,.. i'm sorry twra has to go thru this political backstabbing. It looks like TWRA made a biological management decision, more than likely backed up by in depth research and data, to tweak a limit on fishermen on a east tn lake,. and it has turned on them(TWRA) by complaining fishermen and one specific sorry political figure trying to show his political powers!! All this will be fixed and over as soon as TWRA caves into the political agenda of this rep. and the fishermen he represents. Politics will over-ride a management decision it looks like!! Very sad ,.. IMO!!

Absolutely ridiculous!!

I, for one, will contact my State Rep. and Senator, and make my opinion known! I'm not talking about my feelings for a 2 buck limit either; rather the outstanding and consistant management of our wildlife resources by the TWRA.

“We felt it is important to make all those affected by the operation of the TWRA and the TWRC aware of what could possibly happen,” said Carter in an e-mailed news release. “We did not want our constituents or anyone else to find out about this at the 11th hour. Knowing where we stand with both the House and the Senate at this moment, our agency felt an obligation not only to the sportsmen of Tennessee, but all citizens who enjoy boating and wildlife watching, to let them know of the situation and the potential consequences regarding the future of the TWRA and its governing body, the TWRC."

What are the "potential consequences"? The end of hunting and fishing as we know it? That's hard for me to believe! I want to here some facts and not just negative speculation. How would this affect me and every other sportsman?

If the legislature does not extend TWRA/TWRC this legislative session, then starting July 1 of this year TWRA will begin winding down. If there is no action in the 2011 legislative session TWRA will cease to exist July 1, 2011.

I understand that, but are you telling me management of our wildlife will cease to exist? No more hunting?

TWRA will cease to exist if nothing is done. I guess the legislature could let you pay your license dollars into TDEC and let them set the seasons......

It would be pure speculation to go past the fact that TWRA will cease to exist as an agency unless it is extended.

From a pure financial stand point, it would seem very expensive to shut down TWRA and create a new agency.... JMO
