gave me a few answers... I grew up in Florida where the deer are small and so are the racks... My dad that has been hunting over 50 years down there and mostly coon hunting gave me a simple answer... I asked my dad why are deer bigger (racks) in some areas and not others... The main reason he told me was soil.... He mentioned genetics and age structure but soil was the first thing that came out of his mouth... I was a little shocked since I have never asked my dad much about deer management since he spent most of his life coon hunting and running dogs... Down there we would shoot the first thing that came running bye and never heard about food plots. Tree stands were made out of 2X4 between pine trees and plywood on top... Killing does down there was the last weekend out of the year and you could kill one buck per day... If my dad told me soil was the main reason, than I'm sticking with the answer...

I believe it 100 percent.. I have lived in Florida for 23 years, and hunted all over it, and have seen some quality deer but nothing like tennessee. The first year i hunted in Tn I was blown away by some of the bucks racks and bodys. Soil plays a major part!!

If your blown away by TN you ought to see the picture wall at some check ins in KY or better yet go to IL during the end of summer and look at some bean fields. I wouldnt have believed it until I saw it myself.
