I think they are in for a great disappointment.

What happens when you release that couch potato monster buck onto your regular high fenced habitat? I bet his antler growth will be significantly lower the next year due to natural stresses.

To maximize the return on investment they will have to "hunt" those deer the first year they are released or keep them in a smaller controlled environment.... aka canned hunting.

In my humble opinion, there is something seriously wrong with the direction deer hunting is being shoved. And Texas is doing most of the shoving.

I listened to one talk that I thought was great. The speaker acknowledged the aspect of personal values in where each of us draws the line, but each of us will draw it somewhere. I don't have the exact wording, but where would you draw the line...?

traditional bows
rifles
rifles with scopes
rifles in treestands/blinds
rifles with calls/rattlebags/rangefinders
foodplots
bait
high fences
selective breeding
cloning

Alan,.. i'm not real sure on the cloning,.. i guess i never really thought hard enough on it to draw my own conclusions. I would have to say its stupid IMO,.. the one thing about natural antler growth is its specific to a individual deer,. why would someone copy it? To each his own i assume.
As to were i draw the line,. i draw the line at putting a price tag on antlers,. not just big antlers ,. ANY antlers. I think the death of deer hunting as we know it and have known it lies in the price tag being put on antlers for sale. When you create a money market on any antlers,.. some will take advantage,. and it will hurt the resource beyond what we can control. That has been proven throughout our history of hunting. BUT,.. thats a different topic, and i don't want to get off BGG's main topic posted.

I can see the attraction of growing huge bucks on your property and planting food plots and building ponds for the deer and other animals , but animals need to breed themselves for disease resistance and survivor instincts .

The Ranchers' Associations own the state's wildlife agency. Literally.

But as many are saying, this fanatic obsession with trophy antlers isn't doing harm...

Sure it isn't...

How are they getting rid of the "inferior" genes........total extermination......?

o me, it's sad that a 160 inch deer would ever be frowned upon...
