IMO, there is a place and time for both type stands...I use both and as for my climber its a Summit and my lock-on's are API.

A Summit Climber to me is comfortable if I had a all day sit...

Ladder or screw-in steps...again I use both. I prefer ladder steps better...To me a lot more safer...

There are so many out there...Try to look at as many as possible before deciding.

My climber of choice-Lone Wolf
I like to use it for long sits because it's comfortable.
I use it obviously when I don't have a lock on available.

I like lock on's in early season when it's hot because I don't usually sit as long, and because I don't get as worked up and sweaty. I also like them on morning hunts because I can get in super quite and easy. But they are uncomfortable imo (at least the ones I have are)

Get a couple of the Loc-On Highstyles, very comfortable

I don't feel comfortable sitting on a lock-on, or transfering from the steps to the lock-on. For that reason I use Summit climbers, the Razor when bow hunting and the Viper when gun hunting; much more comfortable and feeling of safety.
