Good post Rich. I agree. TWRA has done a fine job of managing our wildlife resources here in TN, and their management is based on herd health and what the majority of hunters desire. I don't agree with all of the changes that have been made recently, but I'm sure I'm in the minority.
But, rather than constantly complain, I have worked hard to find the type of hunting I enjoy, which is why I spend most of time deer hunting out of state. I still enjoy hunting in TN a great deal, but I am looking for more than what is offered, and I blame no one for that.
However, I will say that I do not enjoy the constant bashing of one segment of the hunting community by certain people on this forum. As far as I'm concerned, trophy hunters are no worse than the shoot 'em and stack 'em crowd, or the hunters that only enjoy shooting deer and not eating them. Just my opinion, so it means little.

Bottom line for me is TWRA has managed the deer heard better than my killing skills. I'm right there with you Richman! Don't sweat TNdeer right now. The trophyists have their panties in a wad because they still can't kill mature bucks even in a state that is loaded with them. Waa, waa... 
I consider myself a trophy hunter and I have done fairly well harvesting mature bucks in a state with liberal buck limits. Loaded with them? I don't think so. Huntable numbers? Yes. And I think we all know who had "their panties in a wad" when an expert from another state made his presence known.

And that's why your not a trophyist Quailman. You understand what is and isn't possible in TN and you work hard to find the kind of hunting you want, even if that means going out-of-state.
However, I will say that I do not enjoy the constant bashing of one segment of the hunting community by certain people on this forum.
On my part, the bashing of the trophyists is 1) turnabout for their constant bashing of those hunters that don't hunt for the same reasons they do; 2) irritation over their constant demands for the state to limit other hunters so they can have more of the type of hunting they want; and 3) their absolute blind refusal to accept the limitations of the biological systems at work, even though it has been explained ad nauseum, simply because the facts don't work out they way they want.
And I say all that being somewhat of a trophy hunter myself (focusing on mature bucks). Now if the state was mismanaging the deer herd, I would be all over them. But their management is producing excellent results within the limitations of the region, and the harvest results appear BETTER than the "trophy" states are producing. But nothing the agency can do--absolutely nothing--is ever going to turn TN into a B&C mecca like KY, IL and the other Midwestern states. That's just a fact.
I have nothing against trophy hunting. I'm a borderline trophy hunter myself. But I can't stand trophyism and the attitude that goes along with it. You (and I don't mean you personally) can be a trophy hunter and still fully accept that others will hunt for different reasons. You can be a trophy hunter without demanding others be limited so your chances of success will hopefully increase, especially when there is no evidence that limiting others really would increase your chance of success.

Have my reasons I hunt, nobody gonna change my mind or beliefs except for maybe myself thru more years of wisdom or change of heart.
TWRA sets the rules, I hunt by their rules.
Trophy hunting, pleasure hunting,meat hunting -- all a matter of opinion anyway.

NOW I can understand where you're coming from. You don't mind trophy hunting, but you mind the attitude that can sometimes come with it. I can agree with that.
