All hunters need to stick together... If we haven't noticed several states won't even let you use a rifle to deer hunt... Before you know it, it will be archery only... Then what would the buck limit guys have to debate... Who's the best B&C scorer!
I have already done the #'s on that.... The # 1 state is dead center around the other top 10, except for TX...
1. IOWA 615
2. MINNESOTA 608
3. WISCONSIN 589
4. ILLINOIS 552
5. TEXAS 316
6. MISSOURI 285
7. KENTUCKY 279
8. KANSAS 255
9. OHIO 235
10. MICHIGAN 155

how many acres does anybody consider enuf to coon hunt on? ,how many get permission from ajoining land owners for permission?.i know i have not seen many tracts of land that will be big enuf to keep dogs on around here, had a yard full of coon dogs 1 nite & they may have been fox hounds,to dark to tell but somewhere in the 10-12 range,if they had jumped my tied up rabbit dogs they would have been short some,as far as im concerned they were trespassing & the owners were at fault.like i have stated before, coon hunting days are numbered due to a lack of property.mike243
If they had been my bunch mike, and they had jumped your beagles, then I would have loaded my own gun and bullet and let you shoot every one of them. I would have also reimbursed you for your losses on the beagles. I would have assumed the responsibility for me and my dogs. But you have people that runs out on the porch when they see a hound go by and pop off a shot at it and kill it. Then when you get there they say some stupid crap like oh he was killin my cats or they was tearing my trash up. And you look around and you dont see a cat no where or any trash scattered around. I guess you are right. The days of the coon hunter is numbered. But it aint the lack of land. Its the lack of generosity that this country has. The land is still here but the good ole days where people would let you use what ever they had have come and gone. I will be in the fight till the end regardless.

we have coon hunters on Chaney and I have noticed that if I hunt an area that was hunted the night before, I don't see any deer the next morning....
I'm not sure this has anything to do with anything....just my experience...
Bh
I doubt the coon hunters had anything to do with you not seeing deer.
I have coon hunted a property, found good sign, and returned the next morning and killed deer.
I coon hunt the little hollow next to my house 2-3 nights a week and see deer in and around it's edges EVERY DAY.

Coon hunting don't bother deer... It just give something else for the deer hunters to gripe about... Did I just say that? I only deer hunt now but I grew up coon hunting.... I guess I'm not though enough to chase dogs through these mountains.. My dad would be proud of me for standing up for coon hunting...

Shooting a hunting dog will land you in some serious trouble. Removing the tracking collar will get you in more trouble.
A friend of mine was hunting in a competition hunt in Indiana and a landowner shot his dog off of the tree.
It cost the landowner over $15,000 and he now has a felony on his record because he took the tracking collar and threw it over a bridge.
Someone shooting a guys coonhound that got lost or out of pocket is no different than stealing a tree stand or trail camera.

You're right and wrong... what has changed is the old assumption that coon hunters can go wherever they want. Now landowners actually expect you to ask permission to hunt before you set foot on thier property.
I've had several groups coon hunt my land with my permission in the past. Never had a problem with any of them. I've had a ton of problems with those who don't ask permission (cut cattle fences to get dogs through, leave gates open at night allowing cows to get out, leave empty beer cans on the property, etc).
You should be focusing on those coon hunters who are the bad eggs... they are giving all of you a bad name.
