What if all the one buck limit states went to a 3 buck limit for
say 5 years and Tennessee went to a 1 buck limit for 5 years.
Would there be a difference in the herds of each state? Would
Tennessee take over in B&C entries?

Crazy hypothetical question, I know, but it would be interesting
to know the results. I have no idea. What are some of your
guesses?

Well....I would think in most of those states, with the short gun seasons,it would be hard to kill 3,big would still have a negative impact.

I doubt it, we would move up the charts I would think, but so many of those states people have gotten hooked on letting bucks pass for bigger bucks that limits wouldn't make a difference. I also think that if TN were going to be a B&C state then we would see more entries then we do now regardless of regs.

Keep in mind that some of those BC entries were made way before some of those states went to stricter regulations. Theres a lot of factors that play into it and buck limits are a very small part of it...JMO

Heres a map of the top 10 states colored in gray. A couple of interesting things is that all the states are North of TN (except TX). The other interesting is that they all border each other (except TX)..

I'll echo what others have said also,Tn will never produce the number of big bucks that those other states will, whatever the limit is.

I agree with Whitetail Junkie. I guess I shouldn't have said
"take over" in my post. I guess what I really mean, is how would
the B&C figures change or would the "figures" change at all.

No one knows or ever will know, because that type equation will
never happen. Again, it's a crazy hypothetical question.

No TN wouldn't take over in B&C entries because TN's habitat doesn't produce many bucks with that much antler growth, even at maturity. TN is already producing thousands of harvested mature bucks, yet very few make B&C.

Now how would the changes affect what is being harvested age-wise between the two states? Probably very little. TN changed to a straight 3 buck limit, and increased firearms hunting during the peak of the rut for Middle TN, yet that appears to have done nothing to harm buck age structure. Instead of increasing the kill of young bucks it decreased the kill of young bucks. Why? I believe we are at the point hunter-education-wise that buck limits play little role in the age of bucks killed. Many hunters now exert personal limitations on what they kill by age and size.

Kind of a slow morning. I think I'll just run head first into the wall.

If we had a one buck limit, no rifles and a three day gun season, we would lead the world in cloacas.
