Over 20 years ago, I advocated selecting certain WMA's as trophy areas. I wrote an article or two about it. I almost got hung.

I am a strong believer in the TWRA and the way they handle things. Like others I would like to have things a little different for my area Unit B but they have the big picture and I only see my piece of the pie. So with that said I'll take my piece and enjoy it...

Fort Campbell is a bonus buck, totally different scenario. Ft Campbell has lots of onetime visitors. So the whole, being selective, goes out the window. I wouldnt read to much in to any quota hunt, or WMA hunts where the harvest of a buck doesnt go against your state tage.
Exactly what I was thinking. It doesn't make any since to compare the two.

Exactly my thoughts. When you have visitors hunting there a couple days a year...and no restrictions... young deer will be harvested more often.

Ft Campbell has areas that are NEVER hunted to serve as refuges. Several areas are archery only. Even with a 1 buck limit the percentage of 1.5 deer is very similar to Tn's 3 buck limit.

Then people need to stop talking about Presidents Island and how the rest of Tn should be managed like it if it makes no sense to compare WMA to statewide hunting.

Thats good then. I would think, there are alot of hunters knowing that (IF) they wasnt returning to the Fort that particular year, it was there last afternoon, and the hours were getting short... I think the "goal" may be lowered a little. Younger deer would be targeted. It would almost be like passing up a "freebee" deer if they didnt harvest it.
I know for certain it has happened inside other areas within the state that holds some great potential.

KY one buck limit is working. They are climbing the charts as far as places to go to hunt trophy whitetail. How can you argue with that?
