LOOK YOU COONDOG HATERS
http://www.dnr.sc.gov/wildlife/publications/pdf/raccoonimpact.pdf
It says that Coonhunting has minimal to no effect on deer movement....1 out of 19 coondogs were observed running deer. And the deer that one dog was running had on a radio collar and returned to his normal range and habits.
I thought this was rather intresting.

we have coon hunters on Chaney and I have noticed that if I hunt an area that was hunted the night before, I don't see any deer the next morning....
I'm not sure this has anything to do with anything....just my experience...

Back in SC,when I hunted with dogs,we jumped the same buck out of the same place 5 weekends in a row, before we finally got him.
We knew it was tthe same one, because he had a deformed hoof, you could easily tell his track.
For what its worth.

For what its worth. How big was the place you jumped it out of ? Was it bed it down with in 100 yrads of where you jumped it and how long did you run it in hours?

while i don't believe normal coon hunting affects deer movement MUCH, several years ago, a "lost" bluetick ran deer for 2 weeks in our hunting area(ran deer through the middle of camp twice!!). we didn't see any deer for several weeks after the dog was "found".

We had a bill in our legislature several years ago here in Ky that was aimed at increasing the penalty for trespassing. It had widespread support from landowners tired of the increasing problem of trespassing. The Coonhunters assoc single handidly derailed the bill. During this debate, the coonhunters used this study, so I am familiar with it. I am not saying its right, or wrong, but I did have a few issues. First, the study was paid for by several coon hunting associations. Secondly, it goes against what many of us have witnessed first hand in the woods. And thirdly, we all know from research that mature deer act differently than young deer. How do we know what the effect on mature deer was? Maybe they were long gone before they were even able to be noticed. It may very well be a good study, but there were several questions about it on the surface.

I coon hunt and deer hunt both. A lot of the time it is on the same land. On several occasions I have seen my dog run past, within 20-30 yards of a deer or group of deer and most of the time the deer don't even move. I have actually seen them bedded and the dog come that close and they don't even stand up. I have also seen them run 20-30 yards and stop and let the dogs pass. I have also seen them run plum out of site but this happens the least. Our dogs will not even offer at a deer so thats a big help I'm sure. If somebody is hunting your area with dogs that will bump a deer I would probably be slightly concerned.
