TN vs. KY DIRT FACTS

I've heard about the "Dirt" all the "Row Crops" Etc on KY having all the"better things for growing deer" here's the facts!
PER USDA
United States Department of Agriculture for those that don't know what USDA is
TN has 26,380,800 acres
2008 facts - 79,000 Farms, Total Farm acres 10,900,000
SOYBEANS grown 1,490,000 acres
CORN grown 690,000 acres
WHEAT grown 620,000 acres
HAY/PASTURE 1,785,000 acres
KY has 25,388,000 acres
2007 facts - 83,000 Farms, Total Farm acres 13,700,000
2008 numbers not posted
SOYBEANS grown 1,080,000 acres
CORN grown 1,360,000 acres
WHEAT grown 250,000 acres
HAY/PASTURE 2,700,000 acres
True Ky has more Corn, but the SOYBEANS are 400,000 acres higher in TN, which we all should know help the deer more than Corn.
Wheat is double the acres.
These numbers do vary some year to year as farmers change due to market conditions.

A good posts, it just what has been said many times.
TN and KY are very simuliar, in land area, topography , agriculture, and diversity.
TN has a larger deer herd.
KY produces larger bucks.
People in both states disagree on hunting forums the reason why!!

Or maybe it was the 9 day season with 1 bucks years ago, I think we got 16 days this year

Here is some KY soil data .

I know of 6 bucks taken in this one hollow in last 8 yrs over 160inches. very probable that others have been also.

Keep in mind , this is forest area only, NO Agriculture within 3 miles. Just mast crop and browse.

I wonder why Texas has a 2 or 3 buck limit and they don't seem to be having problems killing monsters down there. I just noticed that nobody ever mentions TX....

After 2 yrs hunting in KY, I am leaning towards the fact that the vey short Gun season and the Short MuzzleLoader with a 1 Buck limit are the biggest factors for bigger bucks. Alot of bucks get a free pass.
If you do not Bow hunt in KY, you have a short season. But a Bow hunters paradise it is for sure.

that's just acreage. how does the yield per acre compare? that will really show the difference,if any.

I believe the length of gun season argument. Where I'm from in WV, Boone County had some decent bucks and a rifle season lasting a few weeks. While a county just south of Boone being Logan County would produce monster bucks every year and was known for it. The difference? Logan county was a Bow only county with no rifle season. I just believe that with a longer rifle season more of them bucks are killed before they get bigger, which I'm fine with because I aint no trophy hunter and I do both rifle and bow. I could be wrong thats just my opinion/observation.
