I left the house yesterday and right across the street from the farm I hunt I saw the biggest group of toms I have ever seen. There were 20 long beards in one group ! They were just hanging out by an old pond. Still grouped up. Anybody ever seen this many in a group? I've seen 8-10 before, but never 20.

well just to make you sick i have a pic from 3 years ago on a farm in Trousdale CO that has (took me a week to count them all in the pic) 427 birds in it, out of that 427 312 were toms and 75% were in FULL STRUT. That was 4 days before the season started and it goes without saying the season was a quick one on that farm. Not as many birds on that property anymore for various reasons but man it was a site.

they were in a 100acre field that was right up against the river and it looked like they literally covered the entire field. the owner lives on the property now and walks his dogs quite a bit down there so i dont see as many anymore.

I hadn't until this winter. I have seen probably 20 different gobbler groups which had 15+ birds in them this winter. 2 really stuck out with one have 40+ longbeards, and another which had over 30 longbeards. Don't know what it means for hunting this year, but the prospects certainly look good.

All on public land, I am hoping that since folks might have to walk more then 50 yards they will pass as usual on harassing many of these birds.

My prediction for this year, is that the hunting is brutally tough around here, even with all of these LB's, there are that many more x2 hens out there as well.
