I have to ask, why would you expect the cows not to use the salt? Exactly, why would you put salt were cows can get to it.

I have heard somewhere that the deer like the salt and its the only property I have to hunt so I have to deal with it i suppose.

Of course deer like salt. I think most animals do. But why did you put it out? What was your goal?

just fence in the area you put the salt in doesn't have to be a big area the deer will get to it and the cows can't works for me my dad and i have had cows ever since i can remember and it's no problem

I'm sorry, but growing up farming cows all my life I have to laugh at this one! There's no way you'll ever have a salt lick for deer with cows on the property. You'll have to put it somewhere the cows can't get to.
