In thick cover, what is the longest time you have watched a good
buck stand without moving a single muscle. During open hunting
season, over the years, I have watched several "stand" for a
hour or so. It was a situation where they caught a molecule or
two of my scent. I couuld see legs, I could see rack, I could
see a black nose, but I couldn't place a killing shot.

In all the situations, the buck slowly backed out and evaporated
away, never to be seen again (at least my me).

I have observed several good bucks that seemed like statues out
of the hunting season too. It seems they have a knack of when to
freeze.

Had one do that just behind my treestand at Catoosa 2 years ago. Sucker stood there so long I thought he had sneaked off. I never did move and after about 20 mins he eased off. I coulda shot him but never got a good look at his rack.

Never will forget that.

I can't think of any game animal that has more patients, than a
mature Whitetail Deer. I was mainly talking about mature deer in
thick cover that had caught a molecule of human scent in their
nose (it don't take many).

If a mature deer is in a unsecured area and winds you, he or she
usually bolts.....immediately.

One hour and fifteen minutes. It was a nice six point about five yards from the stand I was in. He had scented me but could not find me and just backed up into the thick around my stand and did not move a muscle. After an hour and fifteen minutes he slipped out so quiet a mouse would have made more noise.
