If Tn wants to become a better trophy state, ie the reason behind the lower buck limits, should TN not also implement a shorter rifle season like Kansas (10 days)? Or shotgun only like Illinois? Blackpowder only (bye bye savage) and no scope during muzzleloader season? Become a draw state (Kansas, Iowa, etc)? Seems to me that we should be careful what we wish for.

I agree Country1.some don't know how great the hunting in Tn is right now.sure it could be better but at what cost?i am tired of all the arguing we have been doing. It has not gotten us anywhere so I hope we all can let thing go and try to get along.

I'm for a two buck limit because I would like to see TN become a better Quality State. I also think our longer seasons gives us a chance to pick and choose what we shoot. I don't think TN will ever be a trophy state.

seems like we could learn from what others have done to be successful. Our deer get pressured very hard with the number of days they get hunted. But, I would hate to have just 7-10 days to chase them with a gun. week to 10 days at thanksgiven and another 7-10 season at christmas , with 2 gun tags for bucks would work for me.

I am for whatever you want to do on your place and me doing whatever I want to do on mine. And I'm not kidding. That's really my philosophy of game management. I know that I will not damage the resource, or screw myself if you will, and I believe that most will do the same, as it relates to their own deal. Let the biologists manage the public domain as they see fit.

The only thing our closest neighbor ,that is a "trophy" state has done that you listed,as far as I know,is to have a shorter gun season than we do.Ky actually has a much longer season.A few less MZL days, cross bow only season.
BTW,Wisconsin #1 trophy state I believe is a rifle state,Illinois is a super liberal state,scarred of rifles,thats their reasoning,best I can tell.
But no drawing for tags, scopes on Mzls.Dont think all that other stuff is nessasary. If you use Ky for a model anyway, but it aint gonna happen, sure is February

seems like we could learn from what others have done to be successful.
The problem is deciphering why the current "trophy states" are so. Are they producing more trophy bucks because of their limits/seasons or because of their fantastic resources?
As I've said many times, a monkey could successfully manage for Trophy Bucks in the Midwest. Do nothing and you will have trophy bucks.

Then why has KY come on so strong in the last 5 to 6 years? Why are they now the #1 producer in the last 5 years of book bucks?

Good question, and the answer is definitely not their limits, because the buck limit has went unchanged for way more than the last 5 years!
