The problem is deciphering why the current "trophy states" are so. Are they producing more trophy bucks because of their limits/seasons or because of their fantastic resources?

As I've said many times, a monkey could successfully manage for Trophy Bucks in the Midwest. Do nothing and you will have trophy bucks.

I am sure the big game managers in those states appreciate your reference to their ability.

I'm just glad we get to hunt no matter what the buck limits are. We got it pretty good, considering all this complaining (debating).... \:\)

Well said. And if you want a less than three buck limit then stop at two or one, if that's your preference. Then we can all worry about other things. LOL

Sounds good to me \:D

Then why has KY come on so strong in the last 5 to 6 years? Why are they now the #1 producer in the last 5 years of book bucks?

Good question, and the answer is definitely not their limits, because the buck limit has went unchanged for way more than the last 5 years!

The answer is without question their limits, if you dont believe them, just ask them! Since Indina went to a 1 buck limit, 2 yrs ago, their numbers of b/c bucks entered are rapidly increasing. KY DNR are now thinking that Ind will surpass them in the next few years in b/c entries, as their 1 buck limit makes its impact. Main reason, 1 buck limit, Second reason, Ind has better nutrition overall than KY.

2 post and you have all The answers.... I guess all these guys that went to college all these yrs and managed these whole states should get the studies that you have producted...? Maybe we should go to a 1 buck limit in FL and they will have MONSTERS in all that great sand that the crops grow in.... We can pick other states that have producted record bucks and look at what they product agriculture wise and TN can't compete. Maybe one day if we can warm up the waters and get all the chemicals out, TN can produce 10 lb bass on a regular bases..... Maybe... Maybe... and maybe.... or maybe not.

We can talk about KY's dirt, I'm sure it will come up in here, but the eastern side of I-65 has poorer dirt for the most part, even poorer than TN, and if you get into the upper part of western its not that great either. 1 buck for all those years makes it, I would vote for 2 here in a heart beat.

How to Grow Big Bucks Texas Style

“Besides feeding minerals and corn to our deer, our soil has a lot of calcium and minerals in it, which is why we can grow so many deer with big antlers here. We keep the population down by harvesting does and taking a certain number of management deer every year.

That bad word keeps coming up "Soil"...

private land hunters can create their own destiny,s if they so choose to.
public land hunters have to deal with barren over hunted waste lands in some areas.

let some go, to let some grow.........

Most of the Big Bucks you see come out of Texas, are on large, privatly held ranches, where deer are allowed to AGE to maturity. Most of those guys are talking about 5.5,or 6.5, for a "mature" deer.

Also,I saw a show once where they were talking about Texas, and surprisingly.many of those scrubby looking bushes are highly nutritious for deer.

But its mainly that they let em age.Just like the big racks that occasionaly come out of the ETn mountains,I would think are fairly mature deer.
