Does anybody think there will be any big new changes this coming season for our regs or has anybody heard anything that is being kicked around right now? Or make a comment about what you would like to see changed?

Hot off the wire......Tennessee is going with a one buck per
weapon limit next season. Most of the management funds will go
towards trying to stop the kill all the bucks you want crowd,
from going on a multi buck hunters strike.

Yea, I'm bored too (ha)!

I would like to see a change on how antlerless can be harvested. Rather that the state allowing 7 days to fill quota tags. I wish they would allow a certain mount of antlerless deer to be harvested. Allow the hunter harvest them anytime of the hunting season regardless of the weapon.

Strictly a new club rule but Ames may go from a 120" minimum to a 125".

Lower licensce fee's for Unit B hunters who pay the same price as Unit A & L Hunters who receive more doe tags. It is not fair.

Yes, it is. We have plenty of things here that Unit A&L folks don't have or don't have in great numbers.

Ruffed Grouse, Bears, Trout, River Smallmouth, to name a few.

Our deer season is the same length, our turkey season is the same, etc etc.

We have just as many opps or more then the others, it is up to the individual to take advantage of those opps.

Sorry, IT IS NOT FAIR. We (unit B) get only one muzzleloader Doe and Unit A gets 4, Unit L gets 3 a day. And we pay the exact same license fee's. Their should be a Unit A license, Unit B License and Unit L license. If I leased land in unit A, then I need to buy a Unit A license. If not, I shouldn't have to pay for the same license price as someone who gets 4 Doe muzzleloader tags. It is not fair and has been so for years.

The problem with that would be folks would quit shootn doe cause of the chance it might be a buck with broken antlers or a button or just couldn see the antlers at 500 yards...lol That would condescend the liberal unit L theory!!

Right -

I'm just trying to understand, are you suggesting we no longer have a "hunting" license and sell separate licenses for deer hunting, turkey hunting, bear hunting, squirrel hunting etc. And these are supposed to be pro-rated according to what area you plan to hunt? I personally think our licenses are too complicated already, that scenario just seems to be a nightmare situation to me.

Well, in a sense, Unit A and L have to pay more for rifle doe tags.

But I do feel his pain BGG, it was awful back in the 90's when 2/3 of Alabama had the whole season to shoot does and we had 2-5 days and we were overrun with does.

Kudos to you guys though for getting us in Unit L before it was to late.

Im just thankful for the extra opportunities we got in UNIT B this ear. I enjoyed having an opportunity to hunt anytime this year instead of hunting a week, waiting a week,..etc.

I hope they change this first come first serve crap for the quota tags for does and turkeys. Go back to the computer drawing.

Uh..... "negative ghost rider"....

I hope and pray that never happens.

I let scrubs walk every year... I kill/eat (un intentionally) buttons. If I "suspect" an antlerless deer is a button, he walks.

Two yearlings come into range, one is significantly larger than the other, chances are good it's a button- he walks.

But like they say, Sh*%t happens...

I hunt very, very hard for a good buck or two every year, especially during peak rut. However, I am a predator and a meat eater first.

Just my two cents worth Joker...

I don't mean to start a flame war or anything. I have places to hunt in Loudon County only minutes from the house. I don't need to lease land 2 hrs. away to hunt. But to pay the same price as someone who hunts in Roane County who could stock the freezer during muzzleloader and we only get one antlerless tag? The math doesn't add up. Sorry if it's ruffling any feathers but I've complained for years about that. TWRA could increase the Doe tags in Unit B muzzleloader and I'd be happy.

Even if the deer numbers dont call for this?Im assuming thats why unit B has low doe oppurtunities, not because TWRA doesnt like you.

I guess I feel your pain on this unit B stuff, dont really get all worked up about does myself,but....to carry your arguement farther, wouldnt TWRA need to sell different fishing liscenses depending on what lake you fish in?Some have different limits for different fish.

There is nothing stopping you from hunting a county that has a larger limit on doe. There are PHA's in McMonn, Meigs, Roane, and others that are in easy driving distance for you.

We will no longer have special season quota hunts for deer or turkey. All of it will be regulated by days instead of number of permits.

I suggest we have a "hunting license" which would cover all small game AND a deer tag, a turkey tag, and a bear tag for big game (hogs should be regulated to small game varmints). Do away with the archery, muzzleloader, and gun licenses. Couldn't get much simpler than that.

but can the does in east tn counties handle open permit rifle hunting?not where im at.
Im sure the days will be limited depending on the county..I wouldn't think hawkins or roane county would have the same number of doe days as Claiborne..

I would like to see the muzzleloader season change back similar to what it was before. Whats your guys opinion on adding a weekend to the first season(making it nine days long)then leaving the final muzzleloading week alone?

i'm cool with deer regs. i don't wanna bash twra for anything they do a better job than i could ever wanna do. saying that i would love to see some other way to help with the pigs around here. i think they are getting out of control i just don't know if there is really anything you can do to "control the numbers" other than trapping

BGG... With the changes coming to Unit B doe permits:
Will the agency alternate the days the permits from county to county will be issued? ex: Hawkins 12/17-12/24 Sullivan 12/10-12/17

Or will all tyhe doe permits fall within the same 7 day period as 2008-2009 season?

I found it very hard to fill the tags in a couple different counties during the same 7 day period.

THANKS!

We won't know the details for a few months but the counties that open up antlerless gun hunting will select what days they want. I don't believe they'll be intertwined so as to maximize days among counties.

No...the regulations will not be passed by the Commission until May. Considering how well the first-come-first-served permits went out last year, we believe this will be a welcomed change.

That sounds real good. I tried to find stats online to see how the harvest compared to the actual permits issued last year. Mostly for my surrounding counties.
I think Hawkins did pretty well. I also hunt Sullivan and Greene.

BGG,is the doe days going to be only for the counties that have had antlerless quota hunts in the past? Or will other Unit B and A counties that doesn't usually have a antlerless quota hunt be opened up to hunt them?
