I know an individual that owns around 4000-5000 acres of prime deer land here in west tn. The land is not one piece it is broken up into farms ranging 75-850 acres. I have permission to hunt land that runs into the middle of one of these tracts of land. The genetics are good in this area. I killed a 130 class 8-ptr five yrs ago and I know of two more bucks - 10 ptr scored 159 and (2) 8 ptrs that scored 135&140. The land that surrounds the farm I hunt has not had anyone hunting it for years now and they timbered it out two years ago. Since I am out of work I am wondering do you guys think it would be worth me contacting this individual and maybe striking up a deal were I could guide and get exclusive rights to his property? I know were the rest of the farms are located and believe me this farms have some bruisers on it. Also, there are a ton of big Toms on these properties. This is something that I would love to do, but I do not where to begin. Could a guide service in TN be profitable in TN? I really think that if you could create some good food plots and give the properties five yrs of good management that the possibilities of a few good booners are possible. What are your thoughts guys? A dream or a possibility? If a possibility how would you good about getting this headed up? Or should I just lease the farms and enjoy the hunting?

Here is how you become a millionaire in the guiding business.
You start with two million.
There is no way you can begin to imagine the hurdles and the start up costs. If you are out of work, you can't even afford the insurance.
Just go hunt.

Listen to bowriter. Doing the guide thing is far to hard of work for 99% of all hunters, if your doing it right.

I thought about getting into that a while back. Bowriter and some of the other guys who have a knowledge of the profession taught me a thing or two about the underlying issues that you might not realize exist.
I make an attempt to learn from others experiences and mistakes. The advice and feedback that I received on outfitting swayed me in the other direction.

It would be so hard to get going and would require alot of startup money! Now, if you could lease these farms, I know some members on here would be very interested in these farms, who knows maybe if you got the deal up and got the farms leased you might be able to get your money side of the lease for free. I know alot of leases that the guy that got everything going and got the farms and/or land gets his for free.

This may be an ignorant thought but you could consider making it a hunting club. Get 10-12 our however many members you want and have some dues they have to pay and you all work together putting in food plots. It's kind of like leasing but maybe you could make some rules and manage the area the way you want to.

It could absolutely be done. Obviously it would take hard work and committment but anything is posible if done right! TN IMO isnt the best state to try annd get hunters to pay a guide but you never know you ay find a few.
