A friend of mine heard about this WMA area in Ohio. It is located in Jackson County. Anyone know anything about this place? Any info you might share? We are considering hunting there next year. Thanks in advance!

Brother,

I hunted about an hour away in Adams County, OH 15 years ago. It was COVERED in deer and turkey. I still remember the first morning we were turkey hunting that I stopped counting after hearing 200 gobbles coming from all around us!!!

I also had two yearling deer come running in to our setup, and a button buck sniffed my foot! I think we saw 3 or 4 deer that day....

Lots of Deer and Turkey up that way!!

There are a couple motels in Jackson, a Red Roof and another... only a short drive to Cooper Hollow. Need to put in some time scouting it out. LOTS of deer, IMO you need to hunt hard early season. The area has great habitat. There are many more members on here that I know hunts the area regularly and can share more info than me.

Just check it out, go to the rangers station, talk to the guy over it... he has lots of info to share. I dont think you will be disappointed hunting there.

PS: When hunting up there, let the smaller bucks walk (100-110") \:\)

We should just have a Tndeer bowhunt up there this fall. Their archery season is going to open the beginning of sept this year.

What I saw was the proposed season was September 25-February 6, 2011. Are you sure about the begining of September?

Yeh, got my first deer with shotgun there. tons of deer and hunters. the big ones are there but better to hunt early and way back close to private land. in shotgun season you need to get way back like i said and sit all day. they have them running all over. my hunting buddy in ohio hunted that since he was 12. he got his first pistol doe there weighing in at 200 lbs and biggest body weight buck there too. its worth the drive. plus they moved some camping sites so you better check that first.

Just checked and there are no proposals for early season. Will begin Sept 25-Feb 6th

Would have been nice to chase some big ole velvet bucks still on feeding patterns!! \:\)

Yep I went back and looked and they had it wrong. Wishful thinking I guess.
