My uncle was a dog man-Redbones, Julies, Triggs, Walkers bobtailed fices, beageles didn't matter he could work them all. He spoke dog and he always had a yard full. He treated me and the dogs the same, praised us when we did well, slapped us down when we screwed up.
Pretty good way to raise a kid. IMO.

FL is one of the biggest cattle states in the U.S. and they have run dogs down there forever. Never heard of it being a problem. Fl is not even in the top 10. As a matter of fact in 2009 they ranked 18th and was below Tn. No where close to being one of the biggest cattle states in the U.S. Posting false info only hurts your side of the discussion. Second you said they have run dogs down there forever so the cattle are use to them. Go out and survey the cattle farmers in this state and see what they say. I believe many landowners with cattle will stop leasing their land if dogs are used. I have 7 neighbors with cattle and none of them would allow it. As a matter of fact some of them have got donkeys to keep dogs out of their cattle. I have 2 with no cattle and not sure what they would do.

Can you park on roads and sit in your vehicle while the dogs run.......?
Do you ever shoot at deer near these roads where traffic might be an issue?
How many dogs do you usually use at one time?
Do dogs ever catch wounded deer and hem them up?
also, when i think about deer hunting, I think about sitting quietly in the woods and really enjoying the peacefulness of the whole experience.......for that reason, I don't think I would go for this.
not bashing it, just wouldn't do it myself....

GNB, I have been out with a buddy from Lake City, FL on a dog hunt. It was fun as heck. I mean these guys drive their hunting trucks into the ground just to kill a spike! It was a blast!
However, the quality of deer does suffer due to that added pressure. I would never want TN to become a dog state. If anyone ever thinks that we bicker on here, you should see the still hunters and dog hunters in these clubs going at it!

Yeap, you can sit in your truck and listen to the dogs run, shoot them right off your dog box. A lot of boys have seats built on their dog boxes for this purpose. As many dogs that you and your buddies can put in the dog boxes. The dogs will bay a wounded deer. This is more of a social sport and you are cutting up on the cb radios and chasing the dogs in your truck. The first deer I have ever seen killed this way was getting ready to cross an ole dirt county rd. Not a big deal if you were raised to hunt this way. Watch for traffic...

I understand what your saying, but dogging deer is illegal in the state of TN, so kudos to the cattle farmers! Now on the other hand if the cattle farmers are that worried about their cows with either, Rabbit, squirrel, or duck dogs, and if their cows are that uptight and strung out, then there daily weight gains and miscarriages have got to be pitiful, and there better of selling off their stock and getting a less stressful strain of cattle. Again some cows will freak out and a easily stressed cow/calf/bull/steer/heifer is useless and is nothing more than a heap of leather and bones, but any real cattleman in his right mind will reckonize that and have its butt on next load to the sell barn. I've just never seen cows that jumpy in areas where dogging is common (and legal), cause there used to it, and most will not even stand up if there laying down. Also the vast majority of cattle farmers buy the donkeys/lamas for coyote protection, sure they'll work for dogs too, but the majority of times I've seen cows in pastures with donkeys, the donkeys get more tore up than then cows do with a coyote in the pasture.

Florida is the oldest cattle ranching state in the union. Cattle,as well as horses were first brought to Florida before any other state. Dogs have been a part of ranching and hunting in Florida for Centuries. If cattle on particular farms are not "dog broke", it is simply because they have not been raising cattle long enough.

In certain counties of NC it is legal to shoot from the side of the road. You will see guys standing on top their dog boxes parked on the side of the road. They are not there to shoot the deer crossing the highway, they are mainly there to keep the deer from crossing the roads. I've seen them on Major highways, but down there, its so flat, you can see for miles. # of dogs? I've seen anywhere from 6 to 60 turned out, but most will not be turned out in one spot. Figure if you have a square block, a lot of times, they will turn out a pack in each corner of the block. Yes dogs will catch and bay wounded deer on occasion, but its better the dogs finding them than no recovery. You like peacefullness and quite, and to me peacefullness is a distant pack of deer hounds at sunrise or sunset, just something about it, Like i said earlier, some would enjoy more than others, and you have every right to feel the way you do
