I would love to try it, I know when I used to rabbit hunt it was awesome hearing those beagles get after those rabbits

One thing I want you guys to know is I'm not wanting to bring dog hunting to TN. I haven't owned a dog in over 20 years since I left home (FL). I just wanted to see what you guys thought about it and give us something new to kick around.
P.S. It wouldn't be hard to do, all I have to do is load up and drive 600 miles and I'll be unloading my dads dog box, lol.

most of the states that still allow it have some thick terrain,i would like to try it in a state where its legal but wouldn't like to see us start it,also the trespass issue would cause more problems now that farms have been cut up into small segments, dogs & deer will run for miles in a big circle, too many folks impacted to keep it ethical/legal here imo,mike243 You are right mike, the land in most of the dog states is still unbroken enough to allow it, and I think GA has a minimum acreage requirement. It would be a disaster here, and end in violence I am afraid. That would be a huge problem when a pack of dogs go running through the neighbors cattle. Next thing you know they have busted through a fence or trampled some small calves. The farmer has the right to protect his property so he shoots someone's prize dog then............ nothing good happens. Is a deer worth it? This is state not wide open cropland nor would it be the same as running rabbits. Way to many small livestock farms for running deer with dogs.

Yep, NC forests are NOT like Tn forests. So thick in there you its crazy. The dogs are a needed hunting tool there.

Dogging deer is definitely fun in its own way. I have been on several hunts in some southern states and will say its fun. I do not however look at it like I do hunting deer myself. I dont see that much of a challenge, and killing them is more like killing rabbits to me, just the luck of the draw as to what type deer they run by you. I much prefer matching wits with the deer one on one myself, gives me a much greater sense of accomplishment to kill a good buck that never knew I was standing 15 yards from him when I released the arrow! VS him running for his life from a pack of dogs!! lol each has its different draws however! If its legal and you like it, wear it out and have fun at it, thats what its all about!

Most of them use buck shot and its not a problem. Keep in mind that they are being run by dogs so you have a greater chance of recovering or getting another shot at a wounded deer.

I think it would be great if all the people on the properties around me were using dogs. That should cause a lot of deer to use my property as a safe haven from the dogs.
