I figured I would post some history about running deer with dogs in a state that it is illegal... Something new to debate.
P.S. I don't want to make it legal in TN, just something new to think about...
DOG-HUNTING IN THE DEEP SOUTH As many deer hunters know, dog-hunting can be highly effective. By 1900, whitetail numbers were at an all-time low. Thanks to conservation efforts, the ever-resilient whitetails made a dramatic recovery in the last century. Now there are an estimated 30 million "Virginia deer" spread across 45 states.
Today, 11 states still allow deer hunting with dogs. However, two of the states, California and Hawaii, have no whitetail populations, and state game management officials tightly control the use of dogs to hunt axis, blacktail and mule deer. So the last bastion of dog-hunting for whitetails is found in nine states that were once part of the Old Confederacy: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. Another former Confederate state, Texas, allowed dog-hunting until 1990, when it was banned due to a flood of complaints from landowners and non-hunters. Incidentally, Texas now has an estimated 4 million whitetails, which is the largest population in any individual state or Canadian province.
Deer hunters who believe that their sport is under attack may be surprised and pleased to learn that the country as a whole still overwhelmingly supports the preservation of our hunting tradition. An extensive 2008 public opinion survey indicated that 78 percent of Americans approve of continued legal hunting for wild game. Unfortunately, the same poll showed that support for dog-hunting is dangerously low.
The following information represents an overview of dog-hunting regulations, the current status of dog deer hunting, and likely future prospects for this traditional hunting method in several dog-hunting states in the South.

I would love to hunt deer with dogs.i was talking about it with cecil 30-30 the other day while we were listening to the beagles running rabbits.I think it would be so fun but don't see how you could do it unless you had thousands of acres to hunt to keep the dogs from getting on someone else land.

We used to hunt with beagles in the 70's, most fun I ever had, But we shot better bucks after we started still hunting. We should support each other, even tho we enjoy different things, even the hound hunters in other states. Our biggest enemy is the anti, not the hound hunter, or the crossbow vs traditional, nor the guy that shoots 500 yds vs the guy that thinks over 200 is shooting/not hunting. I also "party hunted" in IOWA with a bunch of local there and that was a blast. I bet if TN tried to do that, some would bust a gut!!

IT would be something fun to try..If you had the land to do it on..It definatly doesn't belong on public land or small tracts...

At this time I dont condone or condemn hunting with hounds. I think that it is something that would have to be seperated from the general hunting season...either add on a week at the end of the season or take the last week and allow hound hunting. If done right (dont know how to do that), there may be a benefit for all hunters.
Now the question I have for the folks that have hunted w/ hounds. What usually happens when I am sitting in my deer stand and hounds run a deer in front of me and I shoot it? the hounds are not mine? Is that acceptable in the community or does it create allot of bad blood?

Its okay if you are hunting property that you have permission or its public property. Most of the guys that run hounds just like to hear them work... Its not a big deal if someone else kills the deer. Thats part of it.
