Just because your shooting at a game animal dosent mean your hunting. Poachers shoot at deer out of trucks all the time........does that mean they are hunting or they are shooting?

For me, its not an ethical shot. For the very few that have the time, equipment, knowledge and experience...yes.

Equipment - rifle, optics, precision ammo, ballistics calculators, range finders
Skill/experience - hours on the range and in the field
knowledge - ballistics, compensation for wind, reading the wind, etc

You can take some people and put them on a range and they can hit a paper plate all day long at that range, put them in the field and forget it.

At that range, the animal more than likely is not going to be spooked until the 1st shot is fired. Plenty of time to set up and figure things out.

Its not for me

I couldnt agree more, but who goes hunting with the intent of making a shot of that distance, and with the equipment to do it?

I would consider it poaching...not hunting...LOL
Poaching is the illegal hunting, fishing, trapping, or eating of wild plants or animals contrary to local and international conservation and wildlife management laws. Violations of hunting laws and regulations are normally punishable by law and, collectively, such violations are known as poaching.

It's plain to see that there are hunters on this site that have never hunted out of the south. People in different regions hunt different ways. I am a bowhunter, muzzelloader, and rifle hunter. I have hunted all over Tennessee parts of South Dakota and eastern Wyoming. All three take a different talent because all three have differnt terrian.
When a hunter decides to take a 750 yd shot he has also decided to take on a new challenge. He/She has to recover the animal. Two years ago in Wyoming I shot a nice 8pt at 400yds plus. I now had to climb down the steep rim rock make my way through the scrub oak and across the pasture. Did I mention I was by myself and no 4 wheelers allowed. Just me and my backpack and a small draging rope. Six hours later my trophy was in the back of my truck at the top of the mountain. Yes I like to Bowhunt as much as the next guy. But I am not going to down someone or assume that they are not a hunter because they choose to kill an animal in a different manner than I do. We have enough trouble recruiting new hunters and keeping our sport alive to do that.

Some of your hunters out west have no choice but to make those long shots...ridgeline to ridgeline or open prarie. Of course most of the shots are less than 750 yards but there are a few opportunities that have to be made at that range and possibly longer. Additionally mountain goat or bighorn sheep hunters are put in situations where there is no choice but a long range shot. A responsible hunter will know what is within their capabilities and will attempt to get in closer if the animal is to far away.

Arguement is good as long as you dont take it personal. Everyone has input and we all can learn from it.

At times, I have been known to start arguements with someone that I actually agree with just to bring up learning points.
