I have seen several deer in the last 3 or 4 days. Everyone of
them look really healthy and "fat". To me, that is a great sign
for the upcoming spring, summer, and fall, barring a major
drought this spring and summer.

I guess the huge acorn crop made it hard on many hunters this
past season, but it could pay dividends for someone who might
want to kill a "trophy" next season.

Yea, I said it. I am ready to burned at the stake now.

Generally, deer come out of the fall and rut in much better shape in a good acorn crop year.

You can say that again....The pictures I'm getting are very surprising at the weight they have on them. They are looking very healthy. \:\)

The group I used to work for collected some pretty good data strongly suggesting that next year's antler growth is strongly influenced by physical condition of bucks post-rut. The better the post-rut physical condition, the better the antler development the following summer.

I have said back in the fall that this past years abundance with be more beneficial next season than this past season. Spring usually has plenty of food for deer. The difference this year will be that less will have to go toward reconditioning the body and more can go to antler growth and milk production for fawns.
