Both my Grandson's use a 243 single shot H&R. One is 6 and the other is 7. Open sights with true glow. It works well for us and they shoot year round. I also put a limbsaver recoil pad on them it helped a lot...I started both my daughters with 243's as well.

Good Luck and what memories you will have. \:\)

I started out with a NEF 243 when I was 7. It had a youth stock on it.

that is the kind of gun my buddy has and the one we let her hold she is a small girl and can't hardly reach the trigger when it is up to her shoulder but at her age they grow like weeds so maybe we will get things ironed out before the time comes that is why we are trying to figure this out now and not wait to the last minute

can't wait to start making those memories

Okay, for the price of the gun you can cut it down for her and still put the recoil pad on. A youth model 243 is what my wife shoots. She is small too. There is a company I can't remember the name but they make a growth stock it click out and grows with the child. You might want to ask the others maybe they know the company.....

My daughter had the same problem. i installed a bi-pod on the front so she could hold it up and put a red dot scope on it to increase eye relief. (A pistol scope would have worked too). I found the main problem for her was reaching the trigger when she tried to get the scope lined up. She also wasn't strong enough to hold the gun up on her own. She shoots a Rossi Youth model .243.
